Attention! Coyote tested.
I was looking for something to deter my dog from some annoying behavior, and I didn't want to spend $20 for a can of air. The price was right and it sounded plausible, if not completely promising. I thought it was worth a try.Forget the instructions, they are written by someone whose first language is something other than English, and while not totally informative, are highly amusing. ("Attention: Do not irritate dog very often when they already stay quiet or in noisy environment. When the dog bark or attempt to attack you, the effect of ultrasonic training device is best."--I'm not sure how you get the dog to attack you, but you might want to try it with barking first.)It requires a 9 volt battery, and will double as a flashlight. I'm not exactly sure why, but it's handy if you're stuck in the dark I suppose. The device is bright yellow and has 3 settings, which are difficult to see because they are molded into the plastic. The top one is just the flashlight, the middle one is a picture of a dog standing/dancing on it's hind legs. Maybe that's for training? The third setting is a dog lying on it's side, what I call 'dead dog' mode. I use that one when I mean business. And, oddly, it seems to work. I started in 'standing/dancing dog' mode and my dog definitely reacts to it, it gets his attention and he'll usually stop what he's doing, at least temporarily. He may return to the behavior if it's something he truly enjoys, like playing tug of war with the leash, and I'll hit it again. That's usually enough. If he's being especially stubborn, or if I think the behavior might hurt someone (jumping on them in greeting), I'll resort to 'dead dog mode' and that will usually do the trick. He stops. I've even used it at the dog park when a group of dogs were getting out of hand, and after hitting the 'dead dog mode' button, they stopped. I've even tried it, in 'standing dog' mode when some dog is barking at us when we walk by. It stopped. Now, most of the time, just seeing me pull the device out of my pocket is enough to get my dog to stop whatever annoying thing he's doing. And I threaten him with 'dead dog' mode if he doesn't straighten up.The bottom line is that this crazy thing actually works, at least on my stubborn boy. I try to use it sparingly because I don't want to quash his joy, just keep him from doing things that can cause damage or injury. (the leash pulling is hell on my elbow!) I don't know how long it lasts, but I've not drained a battery yet. And the flashlight is useful as it lights every time you push the button, so the dog thinks he may get blasted when he sees the light and that's enough to stop the behavior. I can't claim it works every time, but it works enough of the time for it to be worthwhile. If it works on coyotes, I'll let you know.Addendum: This morning I had an encounter with a coyote as I was walking my dog, the coyote was in the bushes about 50 yards away, with eyes on me, another dog walker, and our dogs. I pulled out my trusty Frienda zapper, pointed it at the coyote set on 'dead dog' mode, pushed the button and the coyote bolted immediately. So, I think I'll up my review to 5 stars. Anything that deters a coyote is my best friend.

Faulty
This product was defective and didn't work. I ordered a replacement and this didn't work either. I checked my battery and it was good. I can't rate on effectiveness as wasn't able to get it to work!

Love this for all dogs!!
Works great for my dogs. They stop immediately upon pushing the button. Works across the street for the other dogs in the neighborhood.

Not for My Dog
This product functions properly, but unfortunately it didn't work for my 50 lb 6 month old Aussiedoodle. The unit itself is easy to use and understand, you will need a 9 volt battery when it arrives, and I could definitely hear a high pitch frequency when I held it up to my ear so I knew it was working like it should. My coworker says this exact product works wonderfully for recall with her smaller dog, but I'm not sure if maybe the frequency is not right for all dogs. When I pressed the button she had no reaction to it at all. Back to the drawing board. I wouldn't say don't buy this, because I know it works for some, but keep in mind that it may not work for your specific dog.

Works pretty good!
Doing dog sitting and walking I was always curious about this. I saw the commercials on TV but was extremely skeptical knowing how hard it is to redirect a dog once it gets started barking unless they are trained well. With Multiple dogs in my home all the time I figured it was worth the $17.00 to give it a try. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how well it actually does work. Now is it the absolute miracle seen in the commercials and videos, not really. It does however redirect the dogs and will stop some of the nonsense barking. It can also be used as a training device for recall and other things. All in all I would say it works pretty well but don't expect a miracle if you have a dog that is a constant barker. They will eventually get used to it and ignore it so be sure to work on stopping the barking through some training as well and keep this on hand for when you really need it.

It works! A freaking miracle!
I hesitated to buy this based on other reviews, but it absolutely works. It seems plenty sturdy, although I'm not fond of battery compartments that have a sliding lid. I love that it has three settings. First is a flashlight, the second stops barking but doesn't panic your dog, and third is to repel dog attacks. My two dogs ( I have three, but one is deaf from birth so she doesn't bark much. Instead she make adorable little pig grunt noises.) anyhow, my two hysterical barkers are also sensitive to the slightest whistle noise and panic for hours if the smoke alarm battery reminder chirps. I've tried other bark silencers, but they also scare them. This one is amazing. If they're hysterically barking I say "quiet" and tap the middle button. Instant silence and calm. It's a freaking miracle.

Sorry It Didn't Work for Me
The first time I aimed it toward my dog, he jumped back to me. I was excited that i had found something to stop his barking. It worked one more time and then it didn't. The flashlight worked so it wasn't the battery. I took it to work with me to try on one of the dogs that comes to work with one of my co-workers. It didn't even phase him. I sent the first one back and was promptly sent a replacement. I didn't have any luck with it on either of the dogs. I returned the second one on May 18, 2020 and still have not received my credit.I liked the way it fit in my hand and the flashlight worked great. It has a strap so easy to carry when walking. It was the perfect size so disappointed it didn't work for my dog.
