My 90 year old Granny can have a conversation again!
This is amazing!I’ll be honest, I really didn’t have much faith that a new phone would be able to make much of a difference to our predicament. My Granny is 90, sharp as a tack and loves to chat. Unfortunately she’s very deaf and has an uncanny ability to loose/hide her hearing aids. Thus the phone has become all but useless, and this posed a frustration for all.I read the reviews here and took the plunge; and the whole family is so pleased I did!Be warned though; the reviews that mention its “painful” for young people to use it are spot on; this handset is LOUD!There are volume controls that help mitigate that though, and given it’s primary purpose is to reconnect our matriarch with her brood, it’s a price entirely worth paying. The one small downside is the battery cover is very fiddly to remove (it’s important to have the batteries installed as well as the power adaptor plugged in to ensure the phone is useable during a powercut) and there’s no way Granny could have managed that solo. That’s it though, that’s the only one tiny negative.

good amplification but experienced teething problems
The biggest problem with this phone is that when the volume is amplified, the person on the other end of the line can barely hear you.[edit: this seems to improve with use - phone sounds normal now]. This seems to be a common problem with a number of amplified phones and phone amplifiers. In addition I also found that when installing this phone for a deaf relative the volume and tone adjustment sliders don't respond in a uniform manner therefore getting to sound right is fiddly.[Edit:once set it's fine]This is the second Geemarc Amplipower 50 I've tried and both exhibit the same problems.[Edit: after a few initial problems this phone has proved to be invaluable for it's user - maybe a batch of these phones were kept in a damp warehouse and dry out once in a heated home but whatever the reason for the initial problems the phone seems to improve with use. I've improved my initial 2 star rating to 4 as it is an excellent product when it works but quality control could be better.]

Works well for people who are very deaf
My father's hearing is now very poor, and telephone conversations were proving very difficult. This phone has changed all that, and we can have a normal conversation. To those with normal hearing, the sound from the headset does appear distorted (it is extremely loud) and there is a hissing in the background, which I think is intended to help those with tinnitus. However my father cannot hear the hissing, and says the sound is very clear. He has the volume almost to the maximum, and uses it without his hearing aid. He is using the phone with the settings as it arrived from Amazon, though you can control volume and tone of the ringer and the hansdset.

So its been successful and I'm glad I bought it
Bought this for my mother who following ageing deafness and an ear infection gave up using the phone as she could not hear anything. This has helped, and she can now hold conversations on the phone, but has to adjust the tone and volume controls quite a bit to get it 'just right'. It helps if the person on the other end does not shout, I have found. So its been successful and I'm glad I bought it. Other good points are that the ringer is very loud and the quick dial buttons are easy to program and work well. There are some negatives: a lot of background noise which gets worse the louder you set the controls, and the buttons are a bit on the stiff side. Its also a bit pricey in my opinion. However, it does work, and once again, I'm glad I bought it.

Excellent phone for my elderly parents.
This phone has made a great deal of difference to the quality of life of my parents. They can now not only hear the phone when it rings, but they can also hear me much more clearly and at a volume that suits them at the other end. When they couldn't work out how to set the flashing light for incoming calls, I received excellent support from the Amazon team on their behalf. They were able to follow the instructions and set it up.We are all delighted with this phone and the quality of support for the product.

So so disapointed
From reading other reviews I can only think that these phones are affected by the installation location. (or there are one or two that have a bad component and I was unlucky enough to get one of those). I purchased mine for an elderly relative, tried it at home (unpluged the wire out of my phone and pluged it into this one). Phoned it with my mobile and thought it was fine. Took it to my relative who lives in a sheltered housing flat and did the same thing - it powered up ok but no phone line. I then took out her old phone wire and put in the new one that came with the new phone. Got the dialing tone together with a noise I can only describe as being like a deep fat frier. Rang it from my mobile and the sound from it gave my voice like someone in an echo chamber and the same background noise as of a deep fat frier. I tried all the adjustments many times which changed the volume and tone fine but not the background noise or the echo effect. I also tried it with the speaker and the handset down. I then tried it with my hand blocking the speaking end of the handset to be sure the voice from the ear peice could not recycle back through the handset. I am pretty keen that my relative can use a phone again so I thought maybe she would be able to ignore the distractions and use it anyway but as soon as I handed it to her it started screeching (I think its called amplifier feed back) so loud we all had our hands on our ears. Maybe it interacted with her hearing aid. So so disapointed (cause I was kind of excited that I might have solved what is a very difficult problem) I just packed it up for return. I suppose I could have tested it at home again so I could tell you if the location was the problem but too late now.May I just add that; if the supplier reads this; I have no idea if the phone I got was faulty or not but please please check that any returned phones are not just re-sold without being checked. Because when you are dealing with something so life changing as hearing loss the disapointment can be quite upsetting.

Excellent appareil
