Greta gift to new adult
My son just turned 21 and I got him this so so can reflect back on what games were like back in the days. Some even before his time. He loves it, says has tons of games and looks great. Got him the protection plan which was cheap to add.

A confusing mess of a retro handheld
With so many retro handhelds available and exhaustive reviews of each device available online, I'm going to keep my comments to why I returned the PowKiddy X55.Tl;dr: This product is a confusing mess of parts and pre-installed retro games, many of which either won't work at all, need serious tinkering with emulator settings to run, or don't make sense running on a device with this screen size.Hardware: Your mileage may vary depending on the specific unit you receive. The unit I received the A & B keys would, maybe 1 out of 10 times, fail to activate in NES, SNES and the few N64 games that would actually run on the device. The start button was similarly nonfunctional in games, leaving me no way to exit a game except to reboot the device. In general, the buttons are clicky and loud, maybe too loud. The D-Pad and joycon sticks are decent, although some users might prefer the left joycon and D-Pad switched so the D-Pad was on the top left of the device. The X55's speakers are also decent. The 7" screen is nice, bright, and colorful but makes little sense for most games pre-installed on the device (see more below, on Software). The battery life is, well, not good - in my time with the X55 the battery lasted about 3 hours. That's less than other retro handhelds on the market but may be forgivable if the software/games were better (see below). The big problem, however, is that the battery takes just as long to charge, about 2-2.5 hours. In my experience, a battery that, out of the box, takes as long to charge as it lasts is a battery that won't have a long life.Software: This is where the X55 is truly a confused mess of a device. The X55 comes with 8-bit and 16-bit console games pre-installed. The device runs NES, Genesis, Sega, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, games perfectly fine. Except none of these games use as wide a screen as the X55 comes with - so you'll have either chunky black bars on either side of the display or, more distractingly, with the NES, "NES wallpaper" surrounding the game's square display. The X55 deceptively comes with games from later consoles, including the PSP and Play Station 1. These are games that should actually take advantage of the wide display of the X55, EXCEPT they either (a) fail to load or (b) run HORRIBLY. Seriously. Trying "God of War" was like watching a Kratos slide show with sputtering, bleeping, blurting noises passing for the game music.

Great system but games are lacking...
Ok great screen and alot of games I grew up with.So with the games. There's not everything you might want. There are no Super Mario games for starters. Luckily my boss knows about these games and is helping me by copying his SD card full of Roms. Also just to point out some N64 and Dreamcast games lag and sound stutters. Might be bad files and not just game lag. Also a few games I tried so far did not load and play so the bios might not be the proper one to use. Overall I had fun playing some games so far and can't wait to play more.I got to mention as well the 5.5 screen is great. I was looking into the 7 inch screen model but seemed not too clear.

Pretty good
When my device was alive, it worked well. Good selection of games and easy to navigate between each system. I have kept this system in a case since I bought it. One day after months of not using it I came back to it, and now it no longer turns on or holds a charge. No idea what’s wrong with it.
