Luxury and nostalgia
I’ve read over and over again that nobody can really describe how L'Heure Bleue smells; they can only describe how it makes them feel when they wear it. This intrigued me. I have some of Guerlain’s other perfumes, so I had to try this for myself. All I can say is they were right. It’s quite impossible to describe. There are SO MANY notes in there that only a very experienced perfumer could probably even begin to understand them individually. But the end product is just ridiculously gorgeous and feminine. It’s powdery in a very old fashioned way, so it might not be to everyone’s taste. It has beast mode longevity and projection, yet somehow still feels soft and alluring. It makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, or in a Paris cafe at night waiting for your lover to join you, or sitting by your window on a rainy day with a glass of dry red wine in your hand. It’s moody, sublime, and borders on melancholic. It’s more suited for evening wear, or whenever you wanna feel like a gorgeous woman of mystery. This belongs in everyone’s collection who loves fine perfume. It’s expensive; but it’s definitely worth it.

Fascinating scent
I bought this blind based on the Guerlain brand's overall excellence. (My longtime favorite from Guerlain is Mitsouko, another vintage classic. OTOH, I can't stand Shalimar, so their line has variety.) I strongly believe this is an authentic bottle of L'Heure Bleue because of the long-lasting complexity and loveliness of the scent. The seller was Fast 'n Fresh, for the record. Amazon shuffles sellers and prices rapidly, so I have no idea if some or all versions of this - or any perfume Amazon sells - are genuine. It's a gamble, but the price was reasonable. At first spray I wasn't sure if I'd like this eau de parfum; it's definitely unusual. It needs your body's warmth and chemistry to fully develop. It's not at all floral or sweet; perhaps the term is aldehyde, but don't quote me. It quickly blossomed into a fascinating, shifting cloud that I never tired of. What I loved most is how, hour by hour, it slightly changed and revealed more depth. As it dried down and evolved, the components never distorted...it remained classy and delicious. By the next morning I was still enveloped by the two spritzes I'd applied a full day before. This is the opposite of today's popular fragrances, which to me smell like either insecticide or pastry ingredients. There's a reason France is famous for perfume and this one is justifiably classic. I've learned that most vintage fragrances still being made today have been reformulated due to some ingredients now being unavailable or illegal, or to what marketers call "changing tastes." Whatever the case with Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue, it smells wonderful.

Violet candies and old books
I bought this as a blind buy, never trying the previous formulation (but being a big fan of Shalimar and Samsara). This is indeed, a lovely vintage style fragrance. On me, this fragrance is like sipping Earl Grey tea while eating violet pastilles, tucked into a chair in an old wood paneled library.A sweet vanilla floral and "old books" (something I personally find comforting).Sillage is great on the EDP, a little goes a long way. On clothing, it dries down nicely to a gentle soapy floral.Violet (or Iris) are somewhat difficult florals for some folks to wear, and everyone's body chemistry will react differently to this fragrance so if you know it smells good on you and/or have tried it in a store then you'll know whether you can wear this fragrance.I think it's quite different from Shalimar and Samsara, which are much spicier (clove/cinnamon) than L'heure Bleue. It's complex, soft, and comforting but definitely not for everyone. 4 stars instead of 5 because it's just a tad sweeter on me than I normally like, but this is an outstanding value, authentic product, and the service from Amazon is always great. I'll definitely be wearing this over the winter.

Great to have access to this beautiful, once hard to find fragrance.
This is a friend's favorite scent in the whole world. Long ago she mentioned that her favorite fragrance, as a young lady in the 50s, was l'Heure Bleue. She thought it was long discontinued and does not have a computer. Though this was in the earlier days of using the internet for shopping, I was able to locate a U.S. seller and buy a bottle... and paid dearly for shipping too, let me tell you. But she was thrilled with the gift. Before Christmas last year, I happened to notice her bottle was empty and I was THRILLED to find l'Heure Bleue a. on Amazon (so accessible) and b with FREE SHIPPING. This is a classic fragrance, said to have been created to invoke the spirit of the "blue hour" in Paris, when day to turns to night and lights the sky a distinctive shade of blue. It is, I suppose, a "floriential." Spicy, romantic, feminine yet assertive.

What L'heure Bleue can do!
Quite some time ago, I was living in the French part of Switzerland. While my husband was working as a dentist, I was learning French. It was surprising that I made both French and Swiss friends, and they also became my teachers. One day, while I was visiting a French friend, she told me that she had made an appointment for me. That day, I went to a beauty parlor and got a very different haircut. After that, my friend took me to see what perfume would fit me best. After at least an hour of checking out various perfumes, she had me try L'heure Bleue. She was convinced that was the best perfume for me, in part because there was story of love behind it. So, I left the beauty parlor looking and smelling very different, and to this day, I wear L'heure Bleue.
