For Pigment
I bought this to make lake pigments for handmade watercolor, you can get a lot of pigment from a small amount and a range from rose madder pink to a deep alizarin crimson. If you want to try your hand at making your own paint this is a fairly easy starting point.

I didn't use it for nutrition, I used it to dye handspun wool thread and it was AWESOME
I used it to dye handspun wool thread. There are two types of madder - Rubia Tinctoria, (originated in the Mediterranean) which most people in the dye world know/use....and Rubia Cordifolia, (originated in Asia and the Middle East), also a great dye madder. I prefer Rubia Cordifolia as it is a bit easier to work with (IMHO). The product was top notch, gave me gorgeous color, and the shipping was FAST. Thank you!NOTE: In the photo, the far left skein hanging up was mordanted with 6% iron sulfate weight of fiber, the other three skeins were mordanted with alum 16% weight of fiber.
