This replacement element got my smokehouse going again, but these elements are cheaply made and fragile. Be careful when unpacking and installing the element. If you pull the connecting wire it is poorly attached and will come off. It can't be reattached. I had to get a second replacement element because the first one lost a wire when I was getting it out of the package.

Hopefully i can save you folks some time and trouble... A note to anyone that is looking to replace an older #6BC element that is listed as 450W... A little history: My Big Chief started tripping the GFCI repeatadly at the beginning of the last 3 seasons. Talking with a fellow "Chiefer" at work i suspected the element was in need of replacement. i pulled out the backup element i purchased when i bought my Big Chief, installed it, (problem fixed!) and made an effort to replace the backup. My original backup packaging states, and the element is stamped 450W. The current Amazon description is listed as 400W. Huh? i ordered what i thought was the correct one based on the SKU. The element i received IS the correct one for a post-2006 BC. Apparently they changed the spec on the Wattage some time between 2009 when i bought the original backup until now when i purchased the latest release. The new packaging clearly states it's 400W vs. my older replacement which is listed as 450W. Key take-away is that the SKU: 9890-006-0000 irrespective of stated wattage (450 old/400 new) is the right size/shape/length for a post-2006 BC. BTW, the Smokehouse Products website as of this writing only contributed to my confusion, hopefully that will be rectified soon. For now i'm enjoying my turkey legs, bison jerkey, smoked salmon, and cheese with a new element waiting in the wings. However, be aware as it appears their specs change with time and info given here may be obsolete at some future time. Please see attached photo for additional verification. I use my big chief smoke a lot!! Especially when we’re smoking red salmon when you’re smoking 50 to 100 fish (200 fillets) your smoker is on continuously for a week straight. In five years this is the first time I’ve had to replace the heating element.

Doesn’t fit the older model Little Chief Smokers, not sure why it says“ Universal “
