From an Ex Fracture Clinic Nurse = Perfect!
I managed to get my fingers caught up in my dogs lead when she lunged to get to my daughter...Having worked in a fracture clinic as a nurse for 10 years I knew I had done something to my middle finger by the way it swelled up & bruised. I figured I'd strained the ligaments & so didn't go to A&E & just buddy strapped it to my ring finger, but I soon realised that it was my DIP joint {Distal {furthest away} InterPhalangeal joint {joint in between the bones of the finger}} I had damaged & that buddy strapping wasn't going to help it because that doesn't actually provide any support to the DIP joint... The pictures with the arrows point to areas of tenderness. So I knew I needed a mallet splint to rest my DIP joint & allow it to heal ~ I also spoke to an orthopaedic consultant friend & he looked at my finger & reckons that the tendon has pulled off a piece of bone {see picture of the lump on my finger ~ this is where the piece of bone has been pulled off & bony healing is taking place}. I will need to immobilise my DIP joint for 4 weeks to allow it to heal. The good thing about a splint like this for an injury to the distal part of your finger is that it keeps that section of finger immobilised but allows you to keep the rest of your finger moving ~ which prevents stiffness in unaffected joints & helps you shift swelling by being able to exercise the rest of the finger.I ordered this set as it would come next day, was a good price & offered 4 sizes. The sizes are a 1 {smallest}, 2, 4 & 5 ~ I actually think a size 3 would be ideal for my middle finger but a 4 is ok while it's still quite swollen. What I don't like about these are the velcro straps that they come with as I do not feel they hold them onto the finger securely enough, so I removed all of it. I tape twice round one section that is above the PIP joint {Proximal {closest} InterPhalangeal joint {joint in between the bones of the finger}} to allow that joint to still bend ~ see picture ~ making sure the tape is not to tight ~ zinc oxide is the best tape to use as there is no stretch to it.Note: I've seen a couple of videos that show taping that goes right over the PIP joint & right up to the bottom of the opening of the splint ~ for the injury I have this is unnecessary & would cause more issues with circulation, swelling & interfering with the movement of the PIP joint. If you also need your PIP joint immobilised then a full finger splint, such as the metal ones provided here, or similar, is what you need.Overall this splint does exactly what it is supposed to do x

Multiple sizes and styles to choose from
I was told by Dr I had mallet finger on my little finger after a small injury and required a splint but they didn’t have them in surgery. I didn’t want to waste A&E’s time plus was going away the same day. Boots didn’t have any (right size) so found these and had them delivered to the hotel I was staying in the next day, I liked that they had the 2 different styles to choose from in multiple sizes, which is why I paid that little bit extra. I wanted to use the plastic one as not so bulky but the smallest one dug into the top of the finger where I had a sore lump, so this made it sting. I tried the next size up, but because it was a little bigger, I worried it wasn’t going to give the support I needed to straighten it, plus the hard plastic was still a little uncomfortable on the edges. I opted for the smallest metal one which although a bit bulky, is much more comfortable due the foam inside. If the Velcro starts to give as others have said, I’ll just use surgical tape. Have given 4 stars just because the hardness of the plastic ones. Didn’t suit me but may suit others if they fit.

well made but
I needed a cast for a trigger finger condition developed only recently. So I was cluelessabout what to use,I bought many different options .This is well made but I found it too big and " clattering" .It seems more suitable if one has an injury, maybe a broken finger .But ,the lining is soft and the all object seems has good materials.

Mallet Finger support
Good product but expensive to say I can only use 1 out of 9 items. Would be better to be able to order the size and product required. E bay offer this option.

In general very good
Metal splits are very good, hold well. Plastic one is very comfortable but the holding stripe , if gets wet or if simply wore for a couple of day, get loose. I started with a plastic splint and decided finally to move to a metal one, which is more reliable.

Waste of money
Do absolutely nothing to help with my fingers, not to mention the Velcro fasteners getting stuck to each other. Fiddly enough as it is. Wish I’d saved my money

Good value for money fitted well could wear for long periods without noticeable discomfort but did find the top edge rubbed a bit causing a small blister bit definitely did the job after a little finger strain
