These clocks work great for a hobby enthusiast that wants to make a clock out of an old CD, Record album, or just repair a clock that has mechanically failed.

Used one of these 2-pack mechanisms in my patio clock. The clock is protected from wet, but is subject to temperature extremes, and the old clock mechanism was losing time after a few years.The package is in a sturdy box and the mechanisms and hands are imbedded in stiff foam for protection. No issues with that.This package came with 3 sets of hands and two clock mechanisms. Two of the hand sets are modern, either straight cut or like the ones in my picture; the other is a fancy scroll one that doesn't fit the style of this mirror clock. Originals were black, and I would have used them except the holes were too small to fit onto this new mechanism. I think these red ones will provide more contrast for reading the time. My only concern is that the hour and minute hand are the same shape and pretty close in length. Might be hard to distinguish from a distance. If so, I might be able to drill out and make the old hands fit.Overall, happy so far. We'll see how accurate the keeping time is over the next week or two.

I ordered these and didn't get to install them for quite a while after purchase. When I did I quickly determined that either the clock work was either set up for some other planet with much faster hours or it didn't work properly. Dismayed I tried the other unit and found it to work perfectly. As I was only making one clock at that point I was able to just use the working time piece but now I don't have a clock work for my next clock. At least the one that did work has continued to work for the last few months that it has been hanging in my bathroom. The movement is silent and smooth. I deducted one star for the one that didn't work but the one that did work is great. Buy at your own risk knowing what I know now. I probably won't buy another set.

To replace an old one

I used this kit to make a wall clock made from a table saw blade and some 1/4 inch plywood just to see if it was a worthwhile clock to have displayed in my garage. I've found in the several months of use that the movement is smooth and it's held its accuracy to within a minute or two over that time. That's pretty good and on par with any other battery operated clock in my house, so I'm pretty happy with it. The choice of different clock hands is a plus, but it would be nice to have more of an assortment of choices to go from in this kit. Overall 5 stars for what you get for the price.
