Quality Control is Lacking
I like many of the Blackmagic products and own several ATEM Switchers, Routers, Cameras, etc. But they have always lacked true quality control, that's part of the reason they have such affordable prices. The UltraStudio I just ordered was dead right from the start, the screen would light up, but the unit did nothing, and my computer never recognized it as on. Oh well...try, try again.

This thing is joke for the price.
My job involves all manner of pseudo filming and broadcasting, from makeshift zoom production, to hasty media capture setups, to projection mapping and custom content playback.I was REALLY hoping i'd found my ultimate desktop video interface. I have a Decklink 8K that works great, but I wanted something with basic audio for my office-based OBS work and zoom meetings. On the spec sheet this device checks all the boxes. It has audio embed/disembed, SDI loop-through, assignable SDI and HDMI monitor outputs, i was EXCITED to get it in the mail.I had it turned on for 30 minutes before it was back in the box and linedup for an Amazon return. My complaints:1) There is almost no software in the device that would suggest the need for front panel controls & LCD display. The LCD preview is nice, and I do appreciate the VU meters and resolution HUD. The notifcation of frames buffered is also a nice feature, however I have not figured out how to control or access this function.2) Function buttons 1 & 2 do nothing. Fight me.3) There is no apparent functionality beyond setting I/O through the Desktop video software, like every other blackmagic capture device.4) SD card reader can't play back files (WHAT)5) USB C feature is misleading. It's only for updates, and can't access any of the device's features (again...WHAT?)This seems like a product designed to wedge in between other, more useful products in their capture device line-up.Even if the spec sheet speaks to you, do MUCH research before you waste $1000 on a really impressive looking box that does little more than their lower-cost capture cards do.My $120 Ultrastudio 3G will definitely get continued use while I return this and seek out a different option from a different company.
