Good value
Durable, readable, useful. I like the fact that it shows both Fahrenheit and Celsius. I don't consider it a toy--in my classroom we use it to take the temperature every day. At the end of the year students graph the data we have gathered.

MDF NOT WOOD AND NOT A TOY
I had planned to use this outdoors,it states in the description that it has a wooden base. However it is MDF...so DO NOT put it outside. I will find a place for it...but I am not happy that it wasn't stated that it was MDF.

(technically MDF board) So if you decide that you want a large vertical thermometer like i did
I'm laughing in regards to some consumers' review about this thermometer warping. Of course its gonna warp outside when its made out of particle board! (technically MDF board) So if you decide that you want a large vertical thermometer like i did, just make sure you understand that you will have to use some kind of clear coat polyurethane if you want to preserve from the weather. The level of intelligence is shocking when you see people complaining about particle board warping! Its nice to have a thermometer with a real mercury stick like the kind I used to use in chemistry and physics class in high school.

Works great. Easy to read.
Good: easy to read. Works perfect.Bad: a bit expensive and you’d better not drop it. It breaks easy.

Nice idea but............
The thermometer backing is made of medium density fiberboard and is unpainted on the back. I cannot say for sure but I suspect it will not do well exposed to weather and must be sheltered from the rain. The liquid column is impossible to read unless one is standing DIRECTLY in front of the tube even at a distance of 4 feet. No hardware is included and apparently it is meant to be mounted on a single nail, not appropriate for a windy location. Sooo if you have a sheltered place to mount it and good lighting where it is not heated it may work.

After 6 months
I've had this one for 6 months. I keep it outside under an overhang screwed to a post. It's easy to read and it has Not Faded, Blistered or Warped.
