Outstanding Pomade
While this is a light hold pomade it has enough hold for slick backs and side parts. It also tames my cowlick. It has no bees wax which i prefer this makes the comb lines much smoother and cleaner looking I am OCD about that. There is NO fly aways.I get good lift for my pomp with this pomade as well which is a great with it being a light hold pomade.Ease of application is outstanding it goes in slick and stays that way. You will want to style and let the pomade "set" by naturally letting it sit in your hair for a few minutes or to exipdite the process use a blow dryer and recomb for the cleanest comb lines. The shine is superb. Its a 10 out 10. I get compliments all the time about the brillance of this pomade. It gives a very dark "wet look" to your hair which I love. The smell is a light lavender which i really like.I have tried several light pomades all of which are more expensive and you usually get 4 ounces rather then the 5 you get with this pomade so the value is great.Lastly washability it rinses out with just a few shampoo applications which is rare for an oil based.

My favourite pomade!
I wished it still came in the tin can. However, it’s still the same pomade. It works very well for me and has a good hold. It will not wash out unless you degrease beforehand. To degrease I use some Groom and Clean by combing it through my hair then wash. But it won’t come out if you go out in the rain which is awesome! Smells good, too.

This pomade does the job on fine hair. It's hard to find the pomade version ...
I'm a greaser stuck in modern times. This pomade does the job on fine hair. It's hard to find the pomade version of this in your local drug stores as they sell Royal Crown Hair Dressing instead. I'm still not sure as to why the pomade isn't easily available for mass purchase. The dressing version is really greasy and heavy. It's great for slicking your coiffe back and keeping it there all day. The pomade version is thinner and not as greasy though heavier. It smells better. It reminds me of baked sweets? Everyone has an opinion on the fragrance. To me it smells like my grandfather when he wasn't greasing up with Brylcreem. It's really a nostalgic scent if you are my age (born in the early 70's). I know that it dates back further but that's when I noticed the can of hair grease on the sink counter when I was a kid. This pomade will actually give you some volume to your hair vs the hair dressing version. This pomade can be applied to pomp up your pompadour or to simply control your hair style. It really depends on your intent. I personally grease my hair to oblivion to form it into a pompadour and am not concerned about washing it all out. The more, the better. It really doesn't totally wash out by the way. It'l take several days to wash out without using it. That's another reason that it's so great!

Not as pictured, but close to Royal Crown ...
So, as others mentioned, what is pictured is not what arrives. The old school package was a cardboard bottom and metal top. The latter of which could be used to warm up the pomade over a candle, if desired. No big whoop at all, but what you see you might not get.As to the product itself, it is pretty much the way it was. It seems a bit easier to spread now, which is great. But the scent isn't as strong, which is kind of meh.All and all, this is a good, everyday pomade. I've used it along with Tres Flores for many years. Isn't quite like it used to be, but no major complaints. :)

A good lite hold oil based pomade
On my search for the perfect pomade I came across Royal Crown and decided to give it a try based on the fact that a few people have recommended it to me and also that Johnny Cash and Elvis used to use it. I'm not a greaser by any sorts, in fact I have more of a classic business cut that I like to comb over. I've been trying to find a perfect pomade that works really well with my hair because not only is it very thick but it's also full of cowlicks. When I popped this thing open it smelled so good and looks so shiny that I couldn't wait to put it in my hair. Upon put it in I noticed that it looked really good and kept my hair looking wet all day. Bottom line, this stuff works pretty well for what it is. I used about two quarter sized amounts in my damp hair and it held pretty well all day. There were a few flyaways here and there but that was easily remedied with a small application of water and a pocket comb. However, this stuff can be pretty oily if you put too much in and there will be an amount of build up that might be hard to get out of your hair. A lot of people complain about that with these old oil based pomades and for me, I didn't really see a problem. After a few days of using the crown, I wanted to try a different pomade so I just got my hair wet, put in some conditioner, let it sit for a half an hour, and took a shower. Afterwords my hair was back to normal.I'm still looking for the perfect pomade but I must say this is in my top three. If I had to say one negative thing about this product I would say that it is very oily for a lite pomade. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I just have use less which unfortunately gives my thick crazy hair less hold. If you have thin or regular hair and If you're looking to try out a decent oil based lite hold pomade with great shine and a great price, then you can't beat this!
