Rein in your expectations
Don't think of this as a mainline book or follow-up to Dawn of X. The stories here are more supplementary to the main story Hickman is weaving. I can understand why people might get jarred by this but each story is a pretty good read that makes me want to learn more about the "World of X." Also, there's plenty of Hickman's trademark weirdness which I am quite fond of, personally.

New X-Men for a new age.
I may be alone in this but I see this age of X-Men closely tied to the legalization of cannabis. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Building blocks for something great
Hickman is an established household name for comic book fans, especially Marvel fans since his Secret Warriors run. However, many will probably find this boring due to it being mostly one and done issues that don't lead into any immediate stories. But for those who have read his previous Marvel work and his East of West (probably his best work), then this is par for the course. It's just amazing world building for the X-Men who have entered a new status quo since Hickman's House of X and Powers of X. Each issue brings a new enemy or concept into the fold that I can't say I've ever seen before in X-Men, and it all works perfectly (my favorite issue in this has to be the one where they talk to the Earth's human leaders). Every character is also written perfectly, Magneto asserting his dominance, Professor X being kind but also leader-like. Also, since Marvel has revamped X-Men and has put all their efforts into the mutants, this series has also gotten top tier art. The art by Yu and others is perfect, it provides all the details that make every panel worth reading. The awesome coloring also plays a role in the issues, especially the one with Mystique. Just amazing stuff by everyone involved. Can't wait for more X-Men

The X-Men are back!
But not as we remembered them Krakoa has changed everything giving mutants an edge. But a lot feels off in this first volume. If something it’s too good to be truth... It’s a nice change to see mutants not persecuted but in control. But where is it all going?

That Petered Out Quickly
I was rather surprised by how banal this book was after the incredible House of X/ Powers X. It just read like a standard X-Men story. Outside the political summit I had a hard time differentiating it from the X-Men status quo. Hope the next arc picks up.
