Trumpeter 1/700 USS South Dakota BB57 Battleship 1945 Model Kit

Came in great shape and had fast delivery. More for the advance model, either way great kit and am excited to build it

Trumpeter's 1/700 BB-57 USS South Dakota is a nice little ship kit. These 1/700 kits are not huge, but pack a lot of detail. Unlike the older 70s vintage "Waterline" series of small ships, the South Dakota includes both full hull and waterline options. If you build the full hull version, a nice display stand is included.The kit itself comes molded in light grey (most of the ship), red (lower hull) and black (display stand). The two tiny Kingfisher scout airplanes come molded in clear plastic, so you can carefully paint the structure of the planes, leaving the glass canopies clear.The detail is well done for the most part, and everything seems reasonably accurate to build the South Dakota in her late-war fit. If you want to build the BB-57 as she looked at Guadalcanal, you can't, without work. Some things are really well done like the molded canvas blast bags on the main guns, but then the 20mm gun shields cast onto the deck are pretty poor.Trumpeter's kit is not particularly hard to build, but it does have a lot of parts and a lot of very tiny parts. I would not recommend it to a beginner. As with any plastic model KIT, you do need assorted paints, glue, hobby tools, etc. Trumpeter does provide a nice color guide and clear instructions for assembly.
