Pertronix40001 Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, 40,000 Volt 1.5 Ohm, 12 Volt

I replaced a Mallory distributor, modified with a Pertronix II module, with a Stromberg electronic distributor. The existing 45kv, .7 ohm Pertronix coil was not compatible with the new distributor. This 40kv, 1.5 ohm Flamethrower coil was just what I needed.

Good quality ignition coil. Works well.Some concern with the 1.5 ohm coil resistance since if used with the PerTronix electronic points replacement, the old external coil resistor is not recommended to be used with this PerTronix coil (I left the external resistor on the car and just bypassed it, i.e. shorted out the resistor). I think that the 1.5 ohm primary DC resistance (about half of the old setup) is still OK with my wiring. I hope that I am not wrong.

Did the job I bought it to do. I am restoring a vintage 1970's drag car, and this coil is the ticket I needed. Very pleased, and will buy again, and recommend to others. Happy Motoring!

I replaced the stock coil (and eliminated the ugly ballast resistor) with this PerTronix coil on the 394 cid Oldsmobile engine in my 1934 Buick street rod. I had the distributor rebuilt and converted to HEI by Bubba's Hot Rod Shop and this is the matching coil. In addition to the VASTLY improved performance the chrome looks GREAT! I think I paid a very competitive price and got fast shipping from Amazon.
