Neat way to introduce new content
This is a cute and creative way to introduce new content into an introductory level game so that it is both fun but also approachable for everyone playing. I think the design of this is interesting in that it might actually be useful in informing how some family weight games or even medium/light weight games should introduce their content to new players. Typically many games will roll out content over play troughs if its a campaign game, but if its a game like Splendor, Catan, Azul, etc. you just read the rules and start playing. Using this kind of narrative rollout you can give intro level games more weight and give it more staying power for all player levels because the learning is scaffolded but in a way that won't be toe tapping boredom for seasoned gamers. I enjoyed teaching Space Base to my wife and friends, and I'm also enjoying having this game teach all of us together how to play with the expansion. Cheers!

One of the best expansions to an already great game
One of the best expansions to an already great game!!! This expansion adds more dice and cards and actions to an already fantastic game. This expansion adds so much more fun and play to one of our favorite games. I can't imagine playing without it. We skipped the campaign play and just added it to the base game and started to play and we loved it! we always play with this now and can't imagine not including it. Get this for sure if you enjoy Space Base and you will love it even more.

Two Thumbs Up
This is a very good expansion to an already great game. The mystery is fun. It introduces new components (even some new rules) to the game through a campaign. You add new cards and open up secret boxes as you progress through the campaign. Then when you are all done you just keep all the new elements in the base game to use from there on out. Pretty cool way to introduce new components and rules!

Fun way to introduce an expansion!
I received this today and we played our first game with it and had a lot of fun! It uses a 'legacy game' construct to slowly introduce you to the new mechanics. When you've played through each scenario of the story you will be left with the new bits incorporated into the game. If you don't destroy as you go, you could pull everything out and start all over again, but I don't plan on doing that. We had such a good time that the 2 others I played with are coming back tomorrow for another session.

An entertaining campaign
So, this isn't just a basic expansion like other games have, but a storied campaign. It warns you not to read past a certain point before you play and each substory takes you further through the "book". Each story adds new cards to the decks and even new mechanics to the final game. Even more is that after you complete the story the cards are meant to be kept in the normal game from then on :)This expansion is also desired to be present if you get the next expansion that provides the 6 and 7 player boards as recommended for having the two extra players in the game so that even more engagement per player is present. It took about 2 sessions (about 8 hours of total playing of the stories) to complete all the content present. So, if you're wanting a longer story, this isn't really it. But the added content makes for a good expansion to the base game.

Great addition to the base game
Minor spoilers ahead:We really enjoyed Space Base, and Shy Pluto added a lot of new ways to win. Should you focus on income? Personal rolls? The old trusty arrow chains? Victory point cards? Or will you buy patrol cards and work those Shy Pluto dice? The Story was fine, and a good way to gradually introduce the new cards and dice to the game. It's really fun to have dice to roll each turn, and the new cards add a lot of variety to our games. The wife and I play this 3+ times a day, as the games typically only take 20 minutes or so, once you get familiar. Recommended as an add on to a great game.

You wouldn't expect a story-driven Space Base expansion to be good, but...
When you open up the box for the first, it says don't look at 99% of the cards or read 99% of the rules until you're told to, which might make you think that there's no replayability, but there definitely is. It's a story that goes along several playthroughs, so you can actually savor the gameplay, rather than rush through it in a couple hours or so. The new cards and mechanics are good, but not game-breaking. Since there is a story and new stuff, that's all I'm going to say about it.Our group is enjoying the expansion a lot and I hope they come out with more.

Skip this purchase
This expansion takes a pleasant 45-minute family game and turns it into a long, drawn-out 3-hour ordeal with extremely vague instructions and an even worse story that does nothing to advance the game. Only a few cards involving extra dice roll and orthogonal arrows are worth adding to the base game when finished. My recommendation: skip this purchase.
