Helps with OCD with editing that invokes every compulsion I have
The content is good and it's one of those rare books that actually addresses the manifestations of OCD beyond physical compulsions, including dealing with intrusive thoughts and some of the more taboo brands of OCD. I felt that it was a bit generic, however, and that beyond the explanations of the ways OCD manifests itself, it's really just a mindfulness workbook with little factoids about OCD.I think this book would be effective for someone just starting out on their therapeutic journey and/or for someone who can't afford a therapist, but it doesn't hold any secrets that you won't come across by googling "mindfulness" and "OCD" together.

This is a really helpful book. One thing that I really like is how it has a certain chapter dedicated to each type of OCD so that each individual can do exercises tailored to their specific set of obsessions. It's very well written and professional. I would recommend this workbook to anyone suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The new gold standard for OCD treatment
I am a CBT therapist who now enthusiastically prescribes this book to all of my OCD clients. Jon Hershfield - a well-respected clinician who suffers from OCD himself - and his co-author Tom Corboy have laid out a very accessible and evidence-based approach that makes sense for sufferers. As other reviewers have pointed out, mindfulness techniques that help you observe rather than react to OCD thoughts are becoming an important component in recovery. I feel an equally important point is the book's emphasis on starting with gradual steps toward exposure. Classic exposure and response therapy (or ERP) was been described by at least one person who supports it as "the cruelest form of therapy," and it reports a high dropout rate in the literature - conversely Hershfield's gentle, positive and hopeful approach, undoubtedly borne of his own perspective as a recovering sufferer, will help open the doors of treatment for many more people. I highly recommend this book for anyone who suffers from OCD.

Wonderful, helpful book
Anyone that has struggled with OCD should buy this workbook. It has helped me tremendously, and it also covers the many different types of OCD, as any OCD sufferer will more than likely experience more than one type of OCD during their lifetime. The author is also an OCD sufferer, and having a book like this that is written by someone who knows what it means to struggle with OCD is truly a gift.

Complete, sympathetic, and interactive
This process isn’t easy, especially if you are attempting self-help. Friends and family and fellow sufferers on forums online can definitely support you and help you feel less alone, but sometimes, it’s nice to have a professional who understands. Not every self-help book is helpful; you cannot relate, the techniques are rough, or the author is very distant from your suffering. You wish you could find someone who sympathizes- or better yet, empathizes- with all the nuances of the daily struggle you face. That is what you will find in this book. It is easy to digest, separated into three distinct parts: An introduction to mindfulness, a section of how your techniques apply to the different faces of OCD (harm-O, sexual orientation OCD, POCD, and many others), and a section on how the disorder affects your life and how you can communicate this to others. The author understands you; no joke. Everything is detailed down to how and why it will help you out. They know it’s hard. They know exactly what you’re thinking, what you may be reluctant to do, what you’re afraid of. You are prompted to write your thoughts, fears, and little mindset-changing sentences all throughout the workbook. You might not feel comfortable, but they know. You feel understood, and that’s the important thing. The book includes a collection of online and further book resources alongside their main features and how they can help you build upon what you have learned.I cannot recommend this enough.

Highly beneficial synthesis of mindfulness, cognitive therapy and exposure
The authors write from a perspective of warmth, humanity and respect for the reader which is apparent throughout the book. The encouraging and reflective comments peppering the book make one feel that a trusted guide is sitting nearby and that the journey is not being taken alone. They do a masterful job of describing cognitive distortions in the particular ways they might appear in OCD and the descriptions of what acceptance and minfulness might look like for various obsessions pulls everything together. The Acceptance, Assessment and Action system is a very helpful way of framing treatment and not only is this book a wonderful adjunct to therapy, it is also of tremendous benefit to those for whom treatment is inaccessible. I highly recommend The Mindfulness Workbook for OCD both to clinians and individuals suffering with OCD.

A book way ahead of it's time!
This book is a one of a kind and a absolute necessity for anyone that has OCD; specifically the type of OCD that shows up as intrusive thoughts. It's written in a way that teaches you how to relate differently to the thoughts and feelings that can be so debilitating.I've read a lot of books on OCD and there really is nothing else out there like this book. I'm convinced that a mindful approach to treating OCD is the only way to come to peace with OCD and this book teaches you how to do so.

Insightful and easy to follow
As a sufferer of OCD I'd recently lapsed again due to a significant bereavement. Whilst I have been receiving cbt treatment , I wanted a book that would focus specifically on OCD. After seeing Jon on a you tube video for 'OCD stories', I felt as though he really understood the nature of OCD and so bought his book.I'd pretty much thought I'd exhausted most of ocds more common themes yet I became highly distressed at the thought of a certain song coming into my head. I panicked and fought so hard to rid the lyrics. At the same time I also became obsessed with ringing noises or noises that were high pitched. I questioned whether this was ocd or if I was going mad (which usually means it's OCD! ). When I received the book I was amazed to see these types of obsessions listed. Jon talks about 'loud thoughts' which is exactly the term I was using to my therapist to articulate how they felt. I've started to make real headway with these obsessions now. The songs don't bother me at all now and I'm over the ear thing!I have had a new obsession regarding 'the meaning of life' which I believe some refer to as exestential OCD. I never thought this one would bother me but it has. Whilst it's not covered in the book I'm starting to work with my therapist around ERP and script writing in order to habituate to these awful thoughts and feelings. The mindfulness element I find incredibly useful. I think in the past this is what I had been doing but not recognising it as being 'mindful'. Accepting you had an awful thought and awful feeling yet carrying on with my day without dwelling on it was how I pulled myself out of previous obsessions. This is essentially what this book helps you to do. To pull yourself back to the present and let the thoughts be.This is still something I'm trying to master but do feel like progress is being made. What is useful about this book is that it is written in a way that really resonate's with sufferers. It covers a lot of the main obsessions including relationship OCD, pocd, harm, contamination and sexual orientations OCD.As someone with a short attention span I like a book to be to the point. This is exactly that with really good exercises that aren't dragged out. You don't feel like you are reading war and peace like some books.I'll will be (and have been) recomending this book to my OCD friends 😊

Very disppointing and waste of money
After falling for some of the good reviews for this book. I thought I would buy it for some self help but it was so boring and I couldn`t understand half of what was being said. Typical American speak and nothing I could relate to or identify with. Anyone with problems with OCD would be better off seeing a Therapists rather than waste time, energy and money on this book.

Buy it
This book is excellent. It covers some of the most common forms of OCD that are often misdiagnosed as Generalised Anxiety Disorder and gives highly practical advice for how to deal with them using a mixture of mindfulness and CBT. These kinds of OCD are not widely understood in the UK at present so this kind of book can be a real lifesaver. Highly recommend.

Helpful
I suffer with ROCD (relationship OCD) where I constantly have doubts about my relationship with my boyfriend. This book is dedicated to many types of OCD but had a brilliant chapter on ROCD. Recommend to anyone suffering with obsessive, intrusive thoughts

One of the best
Written with insight for the subject and in a straight forward and understandable way. Despite that the text goes also under the surface when it's needed and covers the various OCD types/symptoms very well. The self help guide on adapting mindfullness technics on OCD is a good and practical one. Any OCD sufferer will gain from this book.

I would definitely recommend this book
I have just read it quickly - I must read again in more thoroughly. It's possibly that on second reading, my rating would increase. I would definitely recommend this book.
