Ethics for a Brave New World, Second Edition (Updated and Expanded)

I had this book for a college Christian ethics course and loved it. This book is dense and offers an in-depth overview of a variety of ethics subjects. Each chapter in the book is devoted to another subject so it is possible to pick through this book in any order that you choose. One of the things that I loved about this book was its upfront honesty. Each chapter is presented by offering both (or multiple if applicable) viewpoints of an ethical issue and attempting to explain and defend each of these stances. The chapters conclude with the authors explaining their personal viewpoint on the subject. This can help the reader discern any bias in the work if they are worried about that, though everything that I read seemed to be quite objective.This book will not tell you what to believe but it may help you reinforce what you know to be true. On the contrary, it may also offer up a viewpoint on a subject that you have never considered. This is a dense read, so take your time through it and don't rush.

This is one of the most informative books concerning ethics from an Evangelical worldview! I am constantly using it again and again as a resource in my theology and philosophy papers with regards to ethics. Although it is a dense read since it's purely information driven, it is very insightful as the authors interact with the differing ethical views. It makes use of popular, up-to-date sources on each of the topics it assesses, and as best as possible, make the most objective claim (in my opinion of course) when wrestling with each of the views. Anyone interested in the field of Biblical, bio, or just ethics in general would benefit greatly from reading and struggling with the topics brought up. Once again, although it's a dense read, it's only dense because of the amount of information. If you take it in chunks, anyone with the comprehension of a high schooler will be able to take in the information and be able to use it adequately. Whether you're a newcomer to the field or have been studying it for years, this is the book for you!

I got this because my premarital pastor recommended the section on Euthanasia so we can educate ourselves and prepare a living will. That is the only section I have read in it's entirety, it was thought provoking, presents the different opinions and definitions and hold them up to a Biblical light. It does not, can not, come to a definite conclusion since each case is unique. However, the points it hits in conclusion have been helpful. A few months latter I returned to it as I considered the implications of the choices involved in end of life planning for my father's life.It won't solve all of your problems or bring all your thoughts to a firm resolution, but it is a great trellis on which to lat your thoughts grow.

This book was excellent. I had to buy it for by Contemporary Issues class. When I show the size of the book; I groaned. BUT the book held my attention. I liked the way the author presented each topic to us. He gave us the world view, his view and the Biblical view. Also lots of statistics. A book for great discussions on current events. I really enjoyed it. I will keep this book.

This book extensively looks at ethical issues from a Christian perspective. This book will help you learn why you've come to believe what you do. Very Biblical and soundly written! I highly recommend it even as a reference tool!

Worth the purchase!A good read and supports my belief that Ethics is one of the Great Virtues, missing in our world today! Ethics with a foundation of Honesty, sprinkled with a bit of backbone and covered over by a cloak of Courage just might help get us back on track but I'm not holding my breath... This book supports what most of us already know but no longer have much hope of recovering these traits again...! :-(V/R The PhotogDog

One of the best works on the subject. The Feinbergs do a wonderful job of covering a variety of topics. Their analysis is top notch, albeit verbose. This is one of the best books I've read that broaches "reproductive technologies," a topic that I think will become increasingly public.

Excellent book for counselors, Pastors or disciple-rs. Great handbook for equipping the saints for the works of service in areas that you may be tempted to think are not covered by the bible, but thankfully gifted men like Feinberg can show us they are...
