CARE AND CLEANING and review
Something I struggled finding so hope this helps.Care and Cleaning Instructions for Carrara Marble Mortar & Wooden PestleTo maintain the beauty and functionality of your Carrara marble mortar and wooden pestle, follow these care guidelines:1. Removing Debris – Gently brush the mortar and pestle to remove any loose particles before washing.2. Washing – Clean with hot water only. Do not use detergents, chemicals, or abrasive materials, as both marble and wood are porous and can absorb unwanted substances.3. Draining & Drying – After washing, thoroughly drain and allow both pieces to air-dry completely before storing.4. General Maintenance – Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture to prevent damage. Store in a dry area when not in use.By following these simple steps, you will preserve the integrity and longevity of your mortar and pestle for years to come. The overall look of it is definitely worth the purchase. Weight is very hefty. The beautiful white color is definitely stand out. It’s definitely recommended to get the biggest size possible and this is the biggest one I have found functionality is as you would expect and the packaging was definitely above expectations.

The speed that it arrived from Italy to California. 3 days!
It is beautiful. It looks just like the one my great grandma brought from Italy in 1900.

Keep looking – There must be a better Italian mortar and pestle
I have a smaller granite mortar and pestle that works well for grinding spices but not for making pesto. I watched various YouTube videos that showed this style of mortar and pestle as being best for that. My first discouragement was that the size of the bowl is stated as .25 gallons. That's an odd measurement. That's four cups but it doesn't seem that big. It is smaller than I would like and smaller than what I've seen on YouTube. But the real downside is that the bottom of the bowl is rather narrow as compared to the relatively flat surface of the pestle. You can't grind things in the bottom of the bowl because the pestle can't get in there. If the bowl was larger and flatter it would allow you to grind and pound correctly. If it wasn't such a hassle, I would return it.

It is NOT a 4 cup capacity! Not as described.
I’m extremely unhappy. I wanted a 4 cup (0.25 gallon) capacity mortar. This arrived in the mail today, and it holds 2 cups. It’s nowhere near the size they advertised.UPDATE: I'm updating my rating because the seller allowed me to return the mortar + pestle and even provided a prepaid shipping label. However, I am still knocking off one star because the listing is wrong. This vessel has a 2 cup capacity; not a 4 cup capacity.
