Not her Best
There is something missing in this Ms Perry’s 7th book o the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt Series. I am not sure the story totally holds together with the ending. Also the ending comes very fast with the revelations very quickly at the end. I have read most if not all of her Monk series. For me that series all had a reasonable ending not coming quickly to the end as each of these series that I have read do and I think that is a flaw in this writing.

Reading an old favorite author
I have read most of the books in this series, only a few missed. I found this story in my unread purchases, read it, and realized how much I missed the storyline, the characters, the history portrayed. Sorry I only have about 3 unread in the series. Absolutely wonderful author. I believe she has another series and will go see what I am missing.

Another Five Star Story
Rely on Anne Perry for a good read. This one is different as the murders and most of the sleuthing take place in the vile, slum area called The Devil's Acre , where as it turns out many of the seemingly respectable gentlemen and ladies , go for a different kind of entertainment.Charlotte discovers accidentally that she can be a flirt .A light diversion from the grizzly subject of the investigation .There is more real danger for the Pitts than is usual. Thomas is stabbed in a street fight and believe it or not Charlotte shows she can give as much as she gets in a brawl with the madam of a brothel !Thomas arrives on time to save her , of course

Every story is different
A classic Perry novel of murder in the highest social circles. The end comes as a surprise and is satisfying and logical as you see the threads coming together

Enjoyment To Read
I always like Charlotte & Thomas Pitt dialogue and description of the times.Upon occasion I must reread a few paragraphs to keep all of the characters straight. Thanks

A strong novel marred by wretched copy proofing.
This is a complex and well-crafted mystery. Once again, however, the publisher, Open Road, has failed its author. In this novel, "the" is repeatedly substituted for "die"; the maid Gracie is referred to as Grade; and I googled "talcing naps" only to realize that "taking naps" was intended. There were a couple of mangled words I never did figure out. The errors are severe enough to have interfered with my enjoyment of the book. Four stars for the story; four demerits for the editorial staff.

revealing
I learnt a lot from reading this book of Anne Perrys, it was written about the time my grandmother was born, I can’t say I’m sorry to have missed those days and times.
