Minn Kota Precision On-Board Charger

I ordered this to replace a returned NOCO Gen1 4a charger (see my earlier review), after it failed in my testing to operate properly. I placed the Minn Kota MK 106 PC on the same new charged battery (resting at 12.85v), as I did the NOCO unit. Voltage readings were simply made across the battery terminals with a DVM. Occasionally I monitored the current into the battery by running the charger through my DVM's test leads using the DVM's built in 10a fused option. In short, the Minn Kota looked at the battery, and seeing that it was in a charged state, quickly passed through the Bulk Mode, and began it's Absorption Mode. In a short period of time, it changed to it's Mild Equalization Mode (designed to run a maximum 1.5Hrs.), stopping early again. It then went into the Maintenance Mode (designed to run 12 Hrs regardless), and 12 hours later, it indeed showed a steady green light indicating 100% charged. I placed a small load on the battery to bring down it's voltage to 12.55v, and the charger started up again. The Minn Kota correctly ran it's multi-stage charge routine on two individual batteries of slightly different type as specified by the manufacturer. Also, it later responded correctly to an intentional battery drain. I am very pleased with it's operation, and would buy again.

I'm a design engineer for a company that makes professional battery chargers for industrial and railroad applications. So I am certainly qualified to say that this series of chargers is very impressive. Multi-stage charging, temperature compensation and digital control - can't get better than that. I'm charging four identical marine batteries, and they are all landing within 5-10 millivolts of each other - very accurate, and I can leave them connected outside through the New England winter without any worries.

Never owned a Minn Kota product that was not excellent and meet or exceed standards. Only had on boat for 2 months and boat has been in shop for winterization and tune up, but weight, size and capabilities is awesome. Mounted easily, accommodated 4 different battery types with independent programming and set up for each took 1 minute total. Initial use showed status of charge as expected and deep cell charging will help keep these batteries in proper condition for a long time.I will update in next 3 years to ensure it performs through warranty period, but you can never go wrong with minn Kota products and services.

Charges your motors fast for the application. The charge indicator progression lights are great so you know the status of your charging mode at all times on each battery. No guessing if it is charging or not and how much. I use mine with solar power and it works very well. Minn Kota products are usually the best and this is no exception. Highly recommended.

I'm a huge fan of Minn Kota Trolling motors and have had similar chargers from Minn Kota such as this one. This charger was hooked to my battery for about 2 weeks with zero problems. I went to check on my boat and batteries the other day and found that my shop had smoke in the air! I have other batteries for my tracker, mower, and other 12v. batteries on maintainers. and the smoke wasn't coming from those maintainers, it was coming off this charger! I'm glad I caught the problem early. I had just purchased a new group 31 deep cycle for my boat, it was 250.00. Once I unplugged the charger, the smoke stopped. Make sure you read other reviews that state the same problem before purchasing. Very disappointed! Thanks for reading

It was easy to set up and seems to work perfectly even with a sine 2000 watt generator. After a hard day on the trolling motor it recharges the batteries in a couple of hours. I have AGM batteries but it also charges lead acid and gel but not L / ion. Each 10 amp lead can be programmed separately for different types of batteries

This charger is ridiculous. It’s the best I’ve ever used or even heard of. So easy to install and use, I might buy a single unit for a truck I don’t use much just to keep the battery in top condition.

So glad I bought this! Has everything you need, all the features takes care of your batteries. Plug it in at the end of the day, get up the next morning and your batteries are ready for the next adventure 👍

Works perfectly, as described. Hooked right up to my two 12v deep cycle batteries wired for my 24v trolling motor, as well as my 12v cranking battery. Charges all three and balances the 24v system just fine. It may have been more expensive than the alternative, but it works!

Installed this charger and added a port plug. Anywhere I go i just need and extension cord to charge my batteries. Very pleased.

Had problems with it - overcharging the batteries, even boiling like crazy my deep cycle 31 sizes battery. Make sure you make a test before you plug it in your boat.
