BAYCOSL-840 Metal Shield Incandescent Utility Light with Grounded Receptacle on 40-Foot Metal Reel, Yellow/Black

My old Craftsman drop light bit the dust after only 20 years of service. Being a little old school, I wanted to replace it with something very similar, which is not an easy task. This light fit the bill. Very easy to install. Quality appears to be good, not flimsy. I am pleased with the product.

I bought this for my son for Christmas this year, even though it wasn't on his list. From having one in my garage for over 30 years, and experiencing just how handy and convenient it was for me to use, I knew this would be a welcomed and unexpected gift for him. Turns out it was probably the most appreciated gift he received and he installed it the next day. He mounted it on the ceiling right above his garage door opener where this always a convenient power outlet. It was nice to get him something unexpected for once. Anytime you need a light or extension cord to work under the hood or run a vacuum to clean your car, it's right there just a pull away.

Meets my expectations. Retractor works well although sometimes when winding the cord it would not wrap evenly onto the interior reel and this forces me to pull the cord out and start all over. I like the metal lamp because it is heavy duty and unlikely to break. I hate plastic utility lights since they always seem to break or melts if you are using a high wattage bulb. I did not rate it 5 stars since the retractor is not perfect. However, I would buy it again so I recommend this product.

Really works well.

Great way to have a light that is easy accessible, hanging from the ceiling of my garage. Quick tip; make it green with a 100W equivalent LED bulb. This will allow the light to stay cooler and give you the light you need. In the past with monofilament lights they would make the shield hot and would even melt carpet in a car if you laid it on the floor while working under the dash. With an led bulb installed this will not happen. Heck it will even keep you from burning yourself when you forget and touch the shield......Forgetting and touching the shield? IT WILL HAPPEN, trust me. Oh and this is the cheaper option as opposed to buying an "LED" drop light that you cant find replacement LED's for. Also this will allow you to change the wattage/brightness as is best for you.

This unit is better quality than I expected for the price I paid. I put a cool-running LED bulb in it so the metal housing doesn't burn me when working in a car and the extra outlet on the handle is very convenient. The reel retracts nicely and has length enough for a 2-3 car garage with tall ceilings.I would definitely recommend this product!

Product showed wear cause it was used but was expecting to see all the parts included. Did not receive anything to hang light with and had to manufacture something for it.

Sturdy, and does the job well. I use a LED light bulb in it, and it's way more durable than the old incandescent. Also, if the bulb breaks, you just replace it instead of the whole reel (unlike the integrated LED reels).

I actually bought two of these , one for ceiling and one for wall installation. The bracket seems pretty decent rigidity for a wall mount considering it is a just a U shaped bracket. So far the rewind mechanism seems quite solid and the round body is quite thick and heavy. I would give this a homeowner quality rating... not commercial grade or farm grade. But for most home owners this is fine. The utility light attachment is pretty much cheap plastic held together with two screws and the clamping mechanism for the cage. It is not that beefy but with modest use will be sufficient. I removed the light mechanism on one of the two units to replace it with just a connector. Just remove the two screws and the utility light comes apart ...The wiring inside is very good quality but the plug contacts are medium duty at best. The light switch is pretty cheap but it likely will take some abuse. For the price this is good quality ... it really depends on the mechanism for longevity. As others have pointed out. the cable to the plug is quite short so you will have limited choices for placement. If you are looking for commercial quality this is not the item you need but for the vast majority of us this product is more than good enough. Be aware the plastic on the utility light is cheap although the cage is very solid. Overall good quality considering the price.

Works good, looks good and all hardware, less the bulb, was included. Great cord length. Recommend.
