Fun film for the kids

All serious Laurel & Hardy fans will have a copy of this on the shelf; mainly because it was their swan song. It's an 'okay' comedy of its time, but because it is clearly the worst of all the Laurel & Hardy features it often gets dreadful reviews. There are one or two decent chuckles to be had along the way, but the stars do look uncomfortable in their roles at times, and Stan is clearly not a well man.My main gripe would be with the quality of the DVD; certainly no better than the VHS releases of this film a few years ago, which themselves look like they have been struck from a very 'dupey' 16mm print. Somebody surely must have better master material of this film ?The plot revolves around Stan & Ollie inheriting an uninhabited island (and a boat), and along with a stowaway and a guy without a nationality, set up shop. As you would expect, a female pops up along the way. The best gag involves Stanley's pet lobster!You're unlikely to pay more than a couple of quid for this DVD, and for that kind of money you haven't been robbed.

Considering this was Laurel & Hardy's final film the quality of this recording is the worst of any of their films available on DVD or VHS. It is a weak film anyway and best only for true Fans who want everything. This release by Artsmagic Ltd is so poor they should be prosecuted for selling bootlegs! It looks like it was transferred off a VHS Video recorded off the TV 30 years ago with the station not being properly tuned in!!!! Stonevision also do a DVD of this film (SVD 5007) which is still quite a poor copy, but is much better than this release. If you want this film buy the Stonevision version....
