Wonderful sequel!
This is the sequel to Gideon the Cutpurse, and it's full of twists, turns, and surprises! The first book ended with Peter accidentally left behind in 1763 while Kate and the Tar Man return to the 21st century. Kate is frantic to go back and rescue Peter, while the Tar Man experiences the ultimate culture shock when he is hurled into 21st century London. The reader (same one as in the first book) is absolutely brilliant and adds a great deal to the enjoyment of the story. Highly recommended for age 10 and up. This trilogy would be a good one to read aloud as well, in my opinion. I can hardly wait for the third and final book/audiobook!

This book is intense! The plot is fast paced with twists and turns. Great villians and heros! Character depth is awesome! Setting is truly unique and well described. Highly recommend this book and the rest of the series.

thoughtful and thought provoking series is still good in the second of the series
This series is terrific and each segment pleases. I love the glimpses of travel, food, and the not so comfortable comforts of the 18th century and it has led to many dinner table conversations in my family about what if...The unexpected surprise that awaits Kate and Peter's father when they return to rescue him is a wonderful plot twist, it allows the story to progress in a very interesting direction and allows another period of British history to be discussed. The surprising success of the Tar-man in the current century is also amazing. I think if your family has always wondered what it would be like to travel to a different century, you could not come up with a better series. The ideas about the ramifications of time travel in general that Ms Buckley-Archer pose are indeed profound concepts simply stated and easily grasped by even the least philosophical among us. I don't think I remember reading another book on the subject that is so very good at identifying the crux of the impact on history. The new characters are a great addition, and the familiar ones from the first book are further developed in a satisfying manner. There is more to come, and the sequel is just as good as the first two. Please read this series! Recommend it! You will not be sorry.

A great read.
Buckley-Archer has really established a convincing premise and her characters — especially the Kate & Peter — are stand-outs in what is a very full marketplace. One of those excellent series that can be recommended for all readers — including grown-ups like me.

The Time Thief
I love history and thought I'd try this book. What a wonderful surprise! I ended up buying the complete series because I got so involved with the characters. The history part was information and a fun way to learn about that era. I'd recommend this series to teenagers and adults.

It was great!
I liked this book because even though this is about kids, she didn't necessarily write it as a kid's book. I think adults can read it, too, just like Harry Potter. I DO think you should read the first book before you read this one. The last book ended at a cliff hanger, and you wouldn't understand it. You should be aware that it ends in a cliff hanger, too, so be prepared! I really enjoyed it and encourage you to get it.

Amazing book!!
The first book of this series was interesting but not super exiting. This is the second and it was fantastic! It makes you cry, then bite your fingernails, then laugh. WARNING: Not a book for the weak minded and faint hearted!

I very much enjoyed this book, right away started the 2nd book and am now on the 3rd and last one. It gets better and better! The story line, historical aspects, interesting characters, plus time travel combine for a great read.
