Get this at your local library instead
I was hoping for a comprehensive guide or something a bit more useful. For content review, I think you're better off getting AP review books and using those. I completely understand why you'd want to buy this, but I think you're better off getting it though your local library. With so much on the line with certification, it's disappointing how unhelpful this book is.

Don’t Waste Your Time and Money.
The subject overviews were okay. The history ones you could tell the writers were starting to run out of steam and it looks like they were trying to do things thematically starting in the 20th century but it just didn’t work. Also, the questions don’t seem to line up very well with the question types released by NBCT. The practice test only has one CRI and it isn’t even formatted properly. If I had it to do again (which hopefully I won’t), I would have spent more time with the CEDs and released exams from college board. Save your money, you can print the CEDs for way less. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

Save your money
If you are looking for a good review book for the Social Studies National Board Certification test, look elsewhere. Although the book does a decent job of organizing content, the practice test is worthless. After taking the test recently, the first thing I noticed was that the questions on the test were of a totally different style. Overall, I would not recommend buying this book. There are enough resources online to help you prepare.

passing thectest is one thing. understanding the depth of human experiences is another.
This will prepare the individual to pass a standardized test nut I have to call into question the standard. History is comprised of many voices from a variety of viewpoints. All voices need to be heard. If the goal is simply to pass the test, this will help. If the goal is to understand the complexities of history, no.

Lots of info a very small percentage applied or was useful.
There wasn't applicable. There was too much bits of info, which is fine for the multiple choice section, but that's only a small part of the test.

Component 1 - Secrets to National Board Certification Social Studies
There is a lot riding on this one test. If you want to score well, you're going to need to keep your skills sharp and the material fresh in your mind. This book is fantastic at making your studying count. I loved the suggestion of pacing myself and actually timing a response question.
