Building a Wood-Framed Panelized Yurt

Decent info and build plans but only applicable to that specific building.
This book was a lot more helpful than some of the other yurt books floating around on amazon but I still feel like some of the info could have been expounded on. Important steps are skipped because the author built his actual yurt differently from the plans in the book. So info on creating a level building area is not there but sorely needed. As well as a few other complaints. Overall it was worth the purchase though.

It is a good book to see if you really want a yurt. We have not started the project, but I know we will depend on this book for help.

High priced for the book...
High priced for the book.. I can appreciate the effort in putting it together yet seems to be a really reeeeally complicated way to build.. Not even sure if I’ll keep it for a reference...

Not what I thought
Was hoping to have more info on roof loads roof pitch snow loads etc. Good how-to for that particular model but NOT a guide on overall design

Perfect yurt/cabin plan for what we needed, and great instructions!
We ordered this book just a couple weeks ago and are almost done with the framing! My partner built most of it ahead of time in a shop, and then we just had a two-day work party with friends to get the floor, walls, and roof up. I highly recommend this as an incredibly affordable way to add a beautiful structure to your property! So much cheaper and much better quality than ordering a fabric yurt. We found out we're having twins this summer and wanted to have additional space for our office/visiting guests. We were looking for a project that we could at least get weather-proofed while my partner was on school break. Having a plan from the beginning meant that we were also able to shop around for used and cheaper building materials for the siding, insulation, windows and door. We are also able to use left-over materials for wrapping and flooring, which significantly cuts down on cost. I'm guessing we'll spend ~$5K when it's all done, including paying for a few days of labor help.

Yurt-tastic!
The author does an excellent job of SHOWING how this project is done. Step, by step ... detail by detail ... making this project attainable by anyone with patience and a willingness to see it through!I love Yurts, and recall my first moment inside one akin to the Author’s remembrance of his ‘80s photo. My experience was at an Outdoor show, in Denver, and I recall stepping into the Yurt and the peace and tranquillity I suddenly felt compared to the din of the crowd outside. I starred up through the skylight and vowed I’d live in a Yurt one day.Alas, I am now disabled with Parkinson’s disease and not likely to build this project myself... but, I’m sending a link to this book to my daughter as she’s been thinking of ways to save money on housing in Uber-expensive Bozeman Montana.Thank you for a job well done!
