Oxford Dictionary: English-Hebrew/Hebrew-English (Hebrew Edition)

I am an English speaker and have used the Oxford EN/HE dictionary extensively in both "directions" over the years. I have found it extremely useful. It holds a very comprehensive collection of words and expressions, covering all areas of modern Hebrew from the elevated language found in Ha'Aretz and Amos Oz to the everyday language heard on the street. All Hebrew is written with nikud (vowels), which is essential for correct pronunciation. Synonyms are usually given to distinguish among multiple translations. Phrases are listed under their key words, making them easy to find. Finally, Hebrew words are listed under all their currently used spellings (usually, with & without the extra vavs and yuds given to replace vowels).This dictionary looks even better in comparison with its absolutely pitiful competition. Every other dictionary I have seen in this size has been severely lacking.

This is a lovely dictionary for someone who is a beginner, and still needs to read with nikkud. I found it easy to look up words I didn't know. The expressions and idioms that are included were really handy to get some idea of how to express myself. More advanced speakers of Hebrew will find it very helpful too. If the typeface could be a little larger, it would have been handy, but it wasn't a huge drawback. I highly recommend this dictionary.

A good general dictionary but with some annoying features. Firstly the printing is small enough so that it is often difficult to distinguish the various vowel points, such as whether a particular vowel is a patach or a tsere. I've supplemented the book with a magnifying glass!For any particular English word, it provides several Hebrew translations but does not distinguish between them. For example, if you look up 'part' you will find 7 Hebrew translations without knowing when to use which one. However, the word is followed by some very useful expressions containing the word 'part' such as 'in part', 'play a part' etc.An oddity I've found is that occasionally I will look up the Hebrew word for an English word and find several translations so I will then look up each Hebrew translation individually to distinguish them, only to find that sometimes one of those words doesn't exist in the Hebrew-English part of the dictionary.My Hebrew speaking friends have found this a very useful dictionary for learning English (apparently it is a standard for students of English in Israel) but I have found it slightly frustrating as a reference for learning Hebrew. Nevertheless its advantages vastly outweigh its disadvantages.

Oxford makes a great Hebrew - English Dictionary. This dictionary really was a disappointment because the print is so small. Need a magnify glass to see the marks under the Hebrew letters. Recommend this dictionary in a larger size but this dictionary size belongs in the trash.

Dizionario molto utile e pratico sia per chi ha appena iniziato a studiare ebraico moderno, sia per chi è di grado già un po' più avanzato. Pertanto lo consiglio, anche per il rapporto qualità/prezzo.

I like its size. It makes it easy to carry around and it has enough words in it so I can find what I need. Easy to navigate throught the book even if I am a beginner student at the language. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and I use it a lot

This is the perfect dictionary for those studying modern Hebrew. Not only does it contain standard words and idiomatic expressions, but unlike many competitive dictionaries, it is legible! I use this several times a day and have had no difficulty in finding the appropriate translations. I AM NOT A HEBREW SPEAKER - so this has been a great boon to me in my study of the language.

This dictionary fulfills what it is supposed to. I haven't tried any other dictionaries, but so for I have found all the words and genders I needed.
