SMALLRIG Universal Magic Arm with Small Ballhead - 2157

As other reviewers have said, this is a ‘small’ unit, and I suspect that it will work well for what I have planned for it (securing a iPhone holder to a Thanos Pro II arm). However, there is one area that I a feel could do with some improvement - the ball mechanisms themselves. Since the ball joint rotates freely within the 2 clamped sides, it’s impossible to tighten the screw firmly into the devices on either end, without the ball rotating in its housing. A far better method would have been to have ‘pinned’ the balls, then added a retaining bush onto both ends, rather than one.

Small, useful connector. Comes undone with vibration (e.g.mounted on a car or bike) , so needs a dot of threadlock. Otherwise a very useful bit of kit. Plastic construction with metal ball fittings and screws, but so far no issues with cracking or torsion failure.

I bought this to use as a basic two axis stabiliser for a gopro as I move the camera from high to low and needed something to keep it pointing level until I can get to make my planned homemade bearing race design.I knew this is designed for a standard camera so I attached a gopro tripod adapter and it works very well.The unit is metal, small, well engineered and well made. It is also a reasonable weight which helps me. The only thing this company could do would be to make an optional spare part of a double ended ball joint to join two of these together, but I can't imagine many people wanting something like that.I use this loose but it locks very well and is intended to be used in a locked position.The lock nut has a tension spring so it does not undo any further from its set position when loose - the whole thing is very well designed and made.

It’s works but the grip in the clamp isn’t very strong. I ended up taking it apart and putting some paper between the ball and the clamp which helped a lot. It can now hold my monitor ok.

A lot smaller than I had anticipated and I wouldn't want to put too much weight on it.

I use this in combination with a SMALLRIG Cool Cheese Bar to support a mini LED light for macro photography. Works very well. Unlike another brand I purchased, it supports well and the joint grip doesn't slip. Good quality product. I glad I discovered SMALLRIG as they have some useful and interesting products.
