All these designs are beautiful and if you adopt the frame of mind you can design your own.
This book has a specific quiltdesign in it, that I like very much. It also makes you think about other designs in a new way. I disliked paperpiecing before because of the waste, but here is a totally different form and not wasteful at all. I think there will be more string quilts in my future! Again, the pages are full of information beyond the basics. Love it!

More Is Better Quilts
I like quilts with a lot going on--to either make or view. (Big Kaffe fan) So these quilts are my cup of tea. I bought this book because of Jamestown Landing & Pineapple Crazy--will be checking Kaffe's blue & "neutral" quilts to add some zip to Jamestown which, at least in the photograph, looks a little flat.I was also struck by Day Lily although the cream background has to go. What struck me is that this quilt, perhaps in a smaller size, would make a good primer for an aspiring quilt maker--hand piece the day lily block, hand applique the leaves, & then machine piece the string blocks & for construction. Why not 5 stars? The instructions! Reading them make my brain hurt. Terms are not well defined & I had to continually flip back & forth through the pattern pages to try & figure things out. For example a "2 part triangle". No where is it defined. I did find something that looked as if it were a 2 part triangle but, I don't believe, it was labeled. Nothing seems to be labeled. My overall impression is that everything that was possible to do was done to save paper & nothing was done for the ease of the quilter. Good thing the quilts are interesting because the directions are 1 star. IMHO

Can’t wait to get started! An excellent book!
This book is very detailed and easy to understand. It’s more than just about quilt patterns. It’s about technics, organization and much more.Even if only making one quilt, this book is worth every penny.

Great response
The book was advertised as “like new” and it was! I doubt that it had ever been read and the only thing that kept it from being sold as “new” was a very tiny ruffed-up edge on a corner of the cover. I am more than satisfied with my purchase.

Wonderful and Original String Quilts
Bonnie Hunter is a very prolific and creative quilter who specializes in scrap quilts of all types. This book on string quilting presents the use of this technique in very original ways that go well beyond the string pieced blocks we usually see. Her Crazy Pineapple quilt uses a different placement of colored strips in the block to create an original layout. Daylilies and Charlotte's Baskets use a string pieced background for blocks set on point. Orca Bay and Talkin' Turkey are composed of star blocks or flying geese surrounded by strip pieced triangles and sashing. Pfefferneuse uses blocks composed of alternating hour glass units and string pieced triangle shapes. You can see pictures of these quilts out on the Internet if you want to preview some of what is in the book. Most of these blocks are paper pieced; the quilts are going to take some time to make because they are either small and/or contain many pieces. But as she points out, every quilter wants to make at least one extreme quilt in her lifetime. If that is something you want to do, this is the book for you.
