The Essential Scots Dictionary: Essential Scots Dictionary: Scots/English – English/Scots (Scots Language Dictionaries)

I already had the "English-Scots" dictionary, but there were times when I wanted to verify the Scots-English translation. As this version is the same size as the other, it is possible that some words were left out. However, I don't think it will be an issue for what I am doing. The only 'complaint' I have of this particular printing is that the bold-face type is too bold; a lowercase 'i' looks like a lowercase L. But I am pleased, and I will have lots of fun with it, too.

Good dictionary, but is not nearly as complete as I was hoping for. I like to translate The Corries' songs, but has not been that helpful.

I just started reading documents written in Scots. This dictionary has met my needs relative to definitions of most Scots words I encounter in those readings.

The 'Concise Scots Dictionary' is only Scots-English; and the 'Concise English-Scots Dictionary' is only English-Scots! You MUST get the 'Essential' one.(But having said that, I don't know much about this other 'Hippocrene (Sc-En En-Sc) Dictionary' -- maybe that's good, too.)I hate to admit it, and all things are equal, but you really have to say, English manufactures are slightly superior to Scottish. (I dunno, maybe they're just better at planning obsolescence (-/making it look unintentional).)

I am sure it is excellent, however I have not found any words that I was looking up.I must have the wrong type of dictionary.

This has been a great help. There is so much to learn about the Scottish language.

What a great time I had remembering words I hadn't used for years. New ones are as interesting and varied as one could wish for. If you love words you will treasure this wee book.

An excellent reference book but also gets you hooked as you keep on reading about more and more words from the past (sadly). Many words in this book were previously completely unknown to me.
