The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens

Detailed information for homeschooling middle and high school
I found this book very helpful in planning out the 7th grade for my daughter. She has always been homeschooled and this book helped me plan her middle school experience and chart a course for high school. It was exactly what I was looking - concise information with sample transcripts, charts, and other tools for planning things ahead of time. I feel very confidant that I can continue on the homeschool journey even in the upper grades with excellent resources like this in hand. This book helps to delve into mysteries like course descriptions, resumes for teens, the place of volunteer work, credits, honors/AP credit, determining grades, and staying sane. Even as a seasoned homeschooler, the upper grades can present difficult challenges. This book is helping me plot a course.

Best Reference Book for Homeschooling Teens!
I first read the book cover to cover, and found so much info that I needed. Now I am re-reading parts of it to plan for the new school year. I wish that I had had this book when my son started the highschool years. I have read Debra Bell's other books, and they are all informative and inspiring. I encourage all homeschooling parents to read this book over and over again. Thank you Debra Bell for sharing your wealth of experience with the rest of us!

Great book
This book has such great information for parents who homeschool their middle and high school kids. I only wish I would have bought the book when my kids were 12 years old so I would have been better prepared. Highly recommended!

More of a discouragement than a help
I read this and felt like I was too late. It was like I had needed to start in middle school to be on track. I learned one thing.

The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Teens
This is a well written book, written from the Christian perspective. It's just what I was looking for as my eldest son turns 13 this year.

Definitely not the Ultimate guide
The book was really disappointing for me. It does have some really great points, but it isn't the ultimate guide to homeschooling teens, not in 2021. Chapter 12 is really useful, and the first section on making the decision is not too bad either, if you are still uncertain in your decision about whether or not to homeschool through high school. The description on Amazon of the contents of the book and what you will find inside were clearly written for a completely different book. It would be great if the table of contents were a picture you could observe prior to purchase. In reality I think that it possibly could have been a good book when it was first published in 2009. But unfortunately eleven, nearly 12 years later, it is in desperate need of an update. It is very specific to the United States, which is fair enough since that is where the author is from, but I was kind of hoping it would be a little more generic. It is most definitely more about getting into college than it is about homeschooling for high school, and while it is essential that you begin with the end in mind, there is a lot of stuff that goes on in-between primary school and college that is important and I would have hoped would be in "the Ultimate Guide".I homeschool with a generally Charlotte Mason approach. It doesn't say which approach this author takes, but it definitely doesn't feel like it is a Charlotte Mason philosophy. It definitely feels more like the author is trying to organise public school for your student, just at home. But then in 2009, the reasons people homeschooled were different to what they are now. It's not fair to say that all older books are irrelevant though because I have read a number of books written by Charlotte Mason and other authors that were written many years ago and gleaned lots of pearls from them. She talks a lot about homeschool Co-ops of up to 200 people, which doesn't sound much like homeschooling to me at all. But as I say it's different in 2021 and very different in Australia.I am sad to give this review though because I imagine from reading Debra Bell's work that were we to meet, I would really like her.
