Q: Will this unit work well with out the fan?

Yes it will. We use it both ways but the fan helps circulate the heat.

Q: Do you have to buy hook upi want to hook it up to propane tank 300 gallonsseparately

Not sure what you mean when you say buy hook upi, mine came for natural gas easy to hook up, did it myself, I don’t use the blower it’s a little loud and doesn’t blow that well, but is a good all around heater I think you will be satisfied with it.
