Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament 2018 Year Dated, Firefly Serenity With Light

Hallmark's "ornaments" have long since ceased to be about hanging stuff on your Christmas tree, it seems. There are "ornaments" which would require a 2" thick teakwood branch to hold them up, for crying out loud! No, these aren't as much for use on a Christmas tree as they are for "collectors."Well, in this case, that's not what I'm using this for.Suffice it to say, my wife loves stuffed animals, and I (through association) have come to as well. And to make some of them more along MY line of thinking... there's a trio of bears with classic Trek uniforms in my home. (The bears didn't come with those, they came later!).One has a phaser... one has a communicator. The ones I chose were not Hallmark ones, though Hallmark has a communicator as well. No, I used the little guys you'd find by the checkout at the local bookstore... miniature versions with some battery-operated functionality.But they never put out a tricorder. Or rather, they did, but it was the TNG one, and that didn't really "fit" with the classic Trek theme. So... once I saw this, I knew it was the perfect completion to the little set.So, we now have a gold-shirted brown bear with a communicator, a red-shirted polar bear with a phaser, and blue-shirted koala bear with a tricorder, hanging over her shoulder. :)As for the device itself... as is usually the case with these miniatures (or "ornaments"), it uses 3x button-cell batteries. The three buttons in the hood are all connected... they're actually just ONE button, functionally. Pressing the button lights up the screen and the three lights above the buttons, and plays back a recorded clip of audio from the original show. There are several clips, most of which have speech from more than one of the actors as part of it.The should strap is not "in scale," and I presume the whole point was originally to hang it from a tree branch using that strap. However, it just so happens to fit the little koala bear's arm perfectly, so... I'm pleased, nevertheless! If you wanted an in-scale full-length strap, however, you might be disappointed.Overall, it's very nice. It's not a scale replica, but it's more than adequate for my purposes!

The detail is really nice enough on its own but then you press the teeny little buttons and it starts playing surprisingly high quality audio clips from the show. I was also surprised at how many clips it plays from different characters. The kind of ornament (/toy?) we’ll treasure for years.

I purchased this as a gift for my husband, he wanted an accurate tree ornament of the Serenity and said that this was the most accurate one he could find online. Which it is! He loves it, the ornament comes with batteries that lets the cockpit and the back engine light up, which are on a short timer. Once you press the button, the lights only stay on for about 5 seconds before shutting off to conserve battery power.

Kinda hard to see what you actually get from a few pictures on a Amazon page..This Ornament is fairly large, has lots of detail, looks like what I saw on TV..so many years ago..Has actual recordings of Spock, Kirk and Dr. Mccoy, from the orginal series, taking Tricorder readings..I consider this as an active ornament you can play with some..vs a static Ornament you hang, and leave it.Its a nice piece for my collection...Mave

My husband was over the moon for this ornament!! He was like a kid again and that made my heart SO happy! It's pretty big (bigger than expected) but not heavy at all! Beautifully designed, and his favorite part was the lights and sounds! He played with it for like an hour! It was great! I have a feeling this isn't going in with the Christmas stuff, but in his office!

Worth every penny, this ornament is beautifully detailed and the lighting is exquisite! Great reminder of my families all time favorite sci-fi show. The paint on the model is not as dark as it appears in the listing, this is good because the actual coloring is more true to the original from the series.
