A Magnificent Book and Very well produced.
I find Goya's life very sad. There again I should imagine a lot of his fans do. Would his work of turned so violent and horrific.Francisco de Goya was born in Spain in 1746. We could say some of his work was was quite violent before he lost his hearing, but this is not entirely true.Francisco made his living painting members of the Royal family and members of the aristocracy. But, to this day we don't know what it was that struck his hearing from him so fast. This is a wonderful book and it shows the portraits and then the horrors of war..... not from Goya's mind and ideas but from what he has just witnessed. It's a good idea to remember this whilst viewing the horrors of war Goya has just seen.As well as the paintings Goya produced etchings and aquatins. These are the most awful echings. People hanging from low heights while soldiers sit by, people forced to sit in chairs while being garoted. Also paintings of lunatic asylums. (why)I recommend this book, not just to show the horrors man can inflict on others but the portraits are truly beautiful. Also at this price it would look Great in your collection.
