They're cheap, but they do the job.
I was worried there would be visible damage due to the low price point and some negative reviews, but they turned out to be in great condition and worked perfectly for holding our movie collection. They hold roughly 520 standard size DVDs. The most difficult part of assembly was definitely attaching the back panel. I highly recommend taping the panels into place with painters tape and drilling pilot holes with a 1/16th drill bit in order to avoid splitting the wood when tapping the nails into place. These shelves are much easier to assemble if you have an extra set of hands to help you out, not really a one person job. They're not the sturdiest shelves, but they're not the flimsiest either. Personally, I don't feel like they need to be anchored to the wall unless you're worried about children yanking on them or animals running into them. They're sturdy enough to stand on their own just fine. All in all, they're great for the price! I'm debating getting a couple more for the future expansion of our collection. If you're looking for high quality and easy assembly, look elsewhere. If you're looking for something cheap that will get the job done and look pretty decent with a little bit of elbow grease to assemble, these are perfect! This is a great option for people on a budget.

Can't beat it for the price
We have a large DVD collection and a large CD collection, and we needed something to store them after we moved to a new house (they'd been in boxes). After buying one of these units for our DVDs and being happy with it, we bought a second one for our CDs. The only complaint I have is the assembly step of attaching the three back panels. They're made of that cheap pressed board that's one step above cardboard, and you have to square them up on the frame (which takes lots of adjustment and re-adjustment to get them as close to perfect as possible) and then attach them with dozens of penny nails. Since the edges of the frame are so narrow, a couple of nails inevitably miss the frame and poke through to the front side of the backing. Once assembled, though, the unit looks nice, and it's stable when filled with DVDs or CDs.

Good value. Needs assembly tips
Overall this is a good value. Having purchased 8 floor units & 2 wall units I learned a lot while putting them together. Before I start with assembly tips I want to say I love having my movies and CD's organized! I can now find any volume from my different collections. My first advice is to the manufacturer - clean the parts better! The box comes with a lot of saw dust included at no charge. Save yourself some agony and simply clean the parts as you unpack the box. I found this to be most effective. As mentioned by others the directions are not the greatest. I will include a few tips. The assembly of the main pieces is straight forward and relatively simple. The first struggle will be attaching the back. It's flimsy, but once attached serves it's purpose and looks good. I would recommend putting a couple of extra shelves in before attaching the back. This will keep the sides straighter which will help while nailing the back on. I also went to the local hardware store to get a few extra brads. Some packages came with too few, while some had too many. I laid the unit on it's face and nailed the bottom to the base. I then tipped it up and inserted quite a few shelves to keep all of the uprights straight. Next I squared the unit up - you can do this by measuring, but I used a carpentry square. The units aren't perfect so check both sides and average them. While holding this position I put a few brads into the top corners and the middle of the uprights. Just enough to keep the unit square and the uprights straight. I then tipped it back on it's face because it's much easier to nail the rest of the brads that way. Tip on nailing it - occasionally you will hit a shelf hole. You will feel this right away. Pull that brad back out and slide it up or down a little bit and renail. Also you will occasionally miss and be too close to the edges of the uprights. As soon as you feel the brad going in too easily pull it out and readjust the entry point and/or angle. Installing the back is the most difficult part of assembly, but with patience it looks great when finished. If you are placing these units on carpeting make sure to put the rear tack glides (feet) far enough from the back of the unit so that it won't rest on the tack strip under your carpeting. Otherwise it will be tippy, or need to be away from the wall. Feel the edge of your carpeting where it meets the wall. You should be able to feel the width of the tack strip. I installed my Tack glides about 3/4" from the rear of the unit and it worked great. The front guides (feet) can go as close to the front as you want.Lastly, I bought some angle brackets from the hardware store to attach the tops of the units to the wall. I screwed them into the side of the units and then set the units in position. Then mark the location on the wall of the hole. Pull the unit out and install wall anchors. Then attach the unit to the wall. This makes an incredibly solid installation. Enough that I'm not worried about a grandchild tipping the unit onto themselves. After installation I painted the brackets to match the wall (picture attached). You don't notice them. The plastic cable tie included didn't seem like enough to me.Overall I feel these units are a great value for the money and I would buy them again. I would absolutely give them 5 stars if the backs were a little easier to install and the parts didn't come covered in sawdust.

Beautiful
This is a beautiful shelf and fully customizable.I wish they would put a few more tacking nails for the back, because your suppose to zipper them between shelving in the back.I plan to buy several of these down the line.Very sturdy

Awesome media shelf with high storage capacity!
This media shelf is amazing! The build quality is very good considering the price and the fact that it's made from compressed particle board. All the pieces fit together well and assembly was a breeze. We purchased this based on the storage capacity and the cherry finish, which matches the rest of our cherry furniture in the living room.We configured the shelves for maximum capacity, which meant creating separate shelf sections for blu-ray's and DVD's. Since blu-ray cases are shorter than DVD, we were able to get an entire extra row for blu-ray's by separating them from the DVD's. With this configuration, we can have 6 rows of blu-ray's with extra space at the bottom and 5 rows of DVD's with extra space at the bottom. Each shelf can store 34 standard sized blu-ray cases or 28+2 standard sized DVD cases* (The +2 being the ability to lay 2 DVD's flat on top of the others on that particular shelf). Although some reviewers report the extra space at the bottom as being "unusable", the fact is that you can store more movies there, you just have to lay them horizontal. If you have any qualms about doing that, then yes, you will have unused space. I use that space for the non-standard sized movies cases.Once assembled and loaded with movies, this unit becomes extremely stable and does not move. I did not have to secure it to the wall like some other reviewers have reported, nor did I use any shims. This is being used on carpeted floor in an apartment.TL;DR - Impressive build quality coupled with high storage capacity should make this purchase a no-brainer if you are in the market for a media storage unit.

Very stable
It looks nice, is very stable, adjustable, is one piece so it doesn’t flop about and was easy to put together. I fully intend on buying another one when my movie collection warrants.

Great media shelf
Very easy to assemble, took me alone, roughly 40 minutes. Longest part was nailing the backing on and adjusting the shelves to fit the way I wanted them too. Sturdiness is not the greatest, it comes with a tie strap and a couple of plastic mounting brackets. Not ideal. I couldnt find them in the box, but I did find an old mounting bracket from another shelf. This one is metal, much more sturdy. Also the shelves have roughly a 1/2inch gap in the back. It doesnt matter for media, but if buying to use for something else, just know that the shelves do not go to the back and you cannot adjust them to move further back. Overall, I am very pleased with my order. Holds roughly 460 DVDs.

Best bang for the buck for all your media
I bought this with a little anxiety due to past purchases of similar items, and their "too soft" material. This is a great product, was received in excellent condition and looks pretty "rich" considering the price. I took my time puttig this together because i'm Type A (and I was watching TV at the same time), so I didn't speed through it at all. Minus the TV and the odd beer break, i'd guess about 1 - 1.5 hours to put it together with care. It is very solid! The short shelves don't allow bowing from the weight, and fully adjustable to whatever height you need. I have my CD, DVD, BluRay and PS3 collection on this and still have lots of room to spare. Highly recommend this to anyone. Best bang for the buck!

Just what I wanted
I assembled this shelving unit by myself in about an hour and a half. It was easy to assemble, all the necessary hardware to assemble it was included, and the product arrived a day earlier than expected and in perfect condition. I found it a little tricky to attach the backing without someone to help me hold it in place, but after sliding a book underneath to hold it up to the level I wanted, I was able to tack them in place at the top and after that it was simple. I liked the fact that the backing for this unit was sturdier than the cardboard that I`ve had as the backing on a couple of my bookshelves. I also like the little plastic "feet" that go on the bottom of the unit, as they made it very easy to slide the unit into place where I wanted it without scratching my hardwood floors.Rather than use the zip tie that was included to anchor the unit to the wall to prevent tipping, my husband simply screwed the backing of the unit directly into the wall just underneath the top shelf. (Since there is plywood behind our drywall, there was no need to search for studs and the unit is very secure.) I do not have to worry that the unit will tip onto one of my children. It holds all our DVDs, VHS tapes, and CDs with room to spare and it doesn`t come out far from the wall, so it doesn`t feel like there`s another bulky piece of furniture in the house. This unit is exactly what I was hoping for and, being a little bit obsessive about organization, thrills my little "a place for everything and everything in its place" heart.
