How to Make Heirloom Teddy Bears

Best Bear Book
This is the book that got me started making teddy bears. I make lots of things and lots of plush toys, but then I went to a thrift shop and found a bunch of Steiff bears and I decided to make a traditional teddy bear. I bought several books but this was the best. I now make and sell bears that are my own personal version of Archie from the book. Having a great time - thanks Sue

Fabulous teddies
Since getting this book I have become a monster.! So far I’ve made 6 bears with 4 more half finished. I’m surrounded by mohair, glass eyes and cotter joints.! My corner of the lounge looks like a bower birds bower.!! I can’t believe I’ve lived my life so far without a teddy bear like these so I’m making them for my grandchildren so they aren’t similarly deprived. Brilliant book, lovely patterns. Would recommend highly.

Faulty template
Initially I thought this was a lovely, thoughtfully detailed book. However, my opinion changed whithin 2 mins of assembling Archie bear. The seam allowance has been omitted where the paw pad meets the arm and so one side of the arm ended up approx half an inch too short. Fortunately I was practising on scrap fabric - could have been an expensive/vexing mistake otherwise. Also encountering one or two other niggles as I progress. Wouldn't recommend for novice sewists.

Sure to be a classic.
Arrived this morning and I haven't put it down yet. Whether you've ever made a teddy bear or not, tried to repair one, or want to have a go for the first time this book is sure to become a classic.Packed full of ideas and inspiration it's hard to imagine this book being bettered any time soon. Loads of illustrations to aid the text as well as templates for bear and clothes patterns.I have a couple of Sue Quinn's bears which are of sufficient vintage to be heirlooms themselves. It's great that she has shared her wealth of experience with the rest of us.

Great Book
Fantastic pictures and brilliant how to instructions. A good read with story line for each bear and comes with the patterns to make 3 bears and 2 items of clothing. Loved the fact that there were additional instructions to personalise faces. I have made each bear and found them easy to do. I made the mistake of using fabric for the first bear, did'nt work, continued with plush,(mohair beyond my means) for the other 2 and they were great.

Excited to get started
I’ve not made one yet but have read the instructions and it appears to be explained very well. I’m finding the material hard to access as it’s very expensive.
