Studio Ghibli Special Short Collection - 23 Short Films and Videos [DVD] (japan import)

As a fan of Hayao Miyazaki, you're going to enjoy some of the shorts, but it's really important to know that these are NOT the short movies that are shown at the museum. These are mostly small snippets of various animations or advertisements that were used. Perhaps the best was the music video. Probably not worth the premium price tag unless you're really a fan.

Make sure you have a region-free player. If you don't, you can play this on your PC using VLC media player, but it will take about 20 minutes for the video to load. All language is in Japanese. No subtitles. I love this.

this collection of shorts reminds me of the Pixar shorts. both Pixar and studio ghibli are the top companies of there kind of product. both companies make high quality very creative and imaginative animated films. but from there they diverge. no one makes anything like studio ghibli, no one. these shorts are great and they show the early times of this company and how they were developing. you must have a multi area player to watch this.

For one, mine does not look like the two disc set I see others showing pictures of. Second, it’s just commercials, no real short films except for on your mark. Sadly, almost every commercial isn’t even in studio ghibli style. Great to own as a fan, not something to actually watch. Half of them you could probably just find on YouTube or google.

If you're looking for 17 Studio Ghibli films tightly compressed onto 6 DVD burnt discs, this is the one for you. Expect low video and audio quality. Awkward menu options. No special features.

If you're wondering what's on this disc by Studio Ghibli, it's mostly commerical content. Some are contracted commercials, while others are for their own movies. Do not buy this expecting the shorts shown at the Ghibli Museum like "Mei & the Kittenbus"!The main attraction is probably the 1995 music video "On Your Mark" directed by Miyazaki, which I've never seen on any other disc release. (Note that in 2016 this video is available online, though probably illegally.)There are also interviews on the making of some of these odds and ends, and a quick look through the Ghibli Museum that's also an advertisement for the DVD that focuses on it. There are no substantial interviews with Miyazaki. There are a few with Toshio Suzuki, and Takahata shows up briefly.If you're a Ghibli fanatic then this disc might interest you for some of the odds and ends they have worked on up to 2005, but it doesn't actually show the bulk of their short films, which are shown at the Ghibli Museum. Also note that it's in Japanese without subtitles, and you will need a region 2 or region free player.

時代を経てもなお色褪せない作品です。感動しました。

岡田斗司夫さんのOn Your Markについての講義を見ていて「教材」として購入。岡田さんの説明を検証するつもりでこのDVDをみるつもりが、後半の中田ヤスタカさんのPVにもはまってしまいました。ジブリはこんなにおしゃれで素敵な仕事もしていたんですね。このDVDを通しで見てみるとジブリ作品て、どこか人間嫌い、普通の人嫌い。人の汗臭さとか温もりとかを突き放して見ているような気がするんですよ。（その辺がジャンプ系のアニメとは一線を画していますよね）そこがおしゃれさでもあり、近未来的でもあり。ショートショートに図らずも現れたジブリのもう一つの顔を見た思いでした。
