Solid radio for backcountry.
The newer model has a bit stronger transmit power (I have one of each) but it is great for back country usage. There are five presets you can set, and it is pretty intuitive.

Channel dial too easily changed.
Great radio. The main problem with it though, is that the channel dial can be easily turned by rubbing on your collar. I have to occasionally check that is it still on the intended channel.

Meh...
Heavy as hell, had to buy to keep up with the joneses. Heavy, expensive and generally a pain to keep in the right spot on you pack when you take it off and put in often. Good quality but dammit Motorola works fine for a fraction of the cost. Way lighter. Plus you can add or detach the remote unit which you can't on these.
