Q: Is 5 and 7 both mediums or do i need to try on both sizes?

Hello, I did purchase these pants for someone else they were size 14 and it fit perfect. On the other hand I am a size small and a size 4 or five fit me perfect. If you are a medium you should try the 7.

Q: Do these shorts have a liner? There are two styles what is the different between the South Pacific and the South Pacific 5 ?

No they are not lined, I always wear over my bathing suit bottoms. I think the difference between the South Pacific and South Pacific 5 is the inseam. South Pacific is 3” & South Pacific 5 is 5”. I love these board shorts. Have them in black, white & black/white strips.

You can see through them dry, too.

I wear a 5 in jeans and this size 5 boardshort fits me perfect. The size so far it runs accurate. I hope this helps
