Amtech S1511 32 LED Headlight

am tech 32 led review
This is an excellent head light. it's very bright. Has 4 different settings. The first makes 7 LEDs come on, the second around half, and the 3rd setting is full power with all 32 LEDs. The 4th setting is with all 32 LEDs on, but in a flashing mode. I find 7 LEDS fine for most things. I currently use it every day to get from my house (no street Lamps) to my car, and for taking the bin down a very long drive once a week. Also used it to fiddle round the back of my computer. The light comes with a very good strap that goes round the head with another strap going over the top so sits very secure. Not sure how long light would last if on constantly especially when it is on full power. However it does use 3 AA batteries, so probably better than some which only use AAA batteries.Do be aware that for a headlight it is big! I got quite a shock when I opened it and wondered if I had made a mistake. However I don't notice the extra bulkiness and it is still light weightThe switch on the top which operate all 4 modes seems sturdy, although the back is kept on with 2 plastic clips which might get a slack over the passage of time as its opened to replace the batteries. For the price verses build quality and the brightness I give it 5 stars. UPDATE 9/10/2013Now owned it for 9 months an it broke about 2 months ago (The hinge that attaches to the strap broke and I was not doing anything that should cause this!). I was originally very impressed, and while it is very cheap I still expect it to last longer than this so if I can work out how to change the star rating I would now only give it one start

Very bright
This delivers a very bright light, even at the lowest setting, It has four settings, lighting 6, 14 then all 32 LEDs, and finally flashing the 32 LEDs. The switch cycles round these settings. The body seems very solid. The back unclips to get the batteries in. The clips seem quite robust. I had a problem getting the batteries in - they were very tight, but went in with some persuasion.A good head band, with a top strap as well as the round the head strap, holds the light firmly. The only issue is the mechanism to tilt the light vertically doesn't seem very robust, and is loose at the highest position, allowing the head to sag, so it won't point straight forwards. I'm going to stick a velcro pad on the back so I can lock it at the top setting when needed. For the price, a great buy.

Not quite so happy!
I bought one of these at TK Max several years ago and as my work requires me to go into lofts it has never let me down.I had never seen it on sale elsewhere but I tracked it down to Amazon so I have just received another two that I ordered. However, I seem to have the reverse problem of your main reviewer. Both of the torches, and one in particular, are an absolute nightmare to fit the batteries into. One of them has two of its batteries in at a slight angle as they won't go in straight. The torch works OK but I was only just able to get the cover for the battery compartment back on and could have broken the clamps in the process. So, only 4 stars this time.

It would have been better with an on/off switch and a dial to set ...
Well after a couple of years of quite regular use and having to put an elastic band around it to stop it falling forward all the time and being banged around a lot it has finally given up the ghost. Don't get me wrong it was well worth what I paid for and the use I had from it although it was a bit awkward in having to keep pressing it to close it down. It would have been better with an on/off switch and a dial to set it at what level of light you want then just switch on/off. It was still good value although has now been taken over by the flood of the new thousands of lumens torches from china

A Good Very Bright Light
I have bought many of these head torches before. They have four light settings, 6,14 and 32 LEDS.s and a flashing setting all of which are very bright. They are also comfortable to wear. The only downside is that the LED's start to fail after a while.

Does the job - Bought a few now.
Really handy torch this that everybody should have about the house/garage/shed. It is as bright as you'll ever need & stays on your head through normal use. It is quite heavy though so not suitable for night joggers/runners, It eats batterys as well so make sure you have some rechargeables.EDITI've come back to say that this torch is actually really good on batterys, It was my mistake before as I use a few sets of chargeable batterys & must have put a set in that were not fully charged. Doh!!!I've since been back & bought 2 more of these so that I can keep one in my shed & have a spare just in case. Must have item for me now & gets the full 5 stars.EDIT x 2Back for another one of these as All my others have broken in one way or tuther over time so they don't last long if you're anything like me. They are so handy though I just have to have at least 1 around teh house & they are cheap so I'll just try to be more gentle this time & see whether it's me or the torch that's the issue Lol

Great light but....
First of all, if you want a bright headlamp then this is it. But there's a problem. It takes three AA batteries that fit into the lamp section of the headpiece and that makes it heavy. So when you are trying to angle it slightly it tends to be dragged down further by the weight of the lamp piece. Such a shame because it has optional light settings that get stronger as you go through them including a flashing one for cyclists, and they are all really bright. It's a great 'be seen and see far ahead' light. If only the batteries fitted in the head section allowing the light to move free of them. Still, it's cheap and I guess you have to make allowances.

Torch very bright and very convenient, but let down by plastic mount
A brilliant head torch. Larger than normal, but much much brighter. Invaluable particularly when doing close work, and also when walking around at night.I've had it a couple of years, but sadly the ratchet device that holds the strap on has broken, and there is no easy way of mending it. Really, structural plastic is not going to last too long, and it should be made of sturdier stuff. I can still use it as a hand torch though.Considering how much it cost though, I cannot complain.
