Made in the U.S.A. The TDC Indicator allows a technician to accurately set any position to top dead center. Just remove the spark plug, screw in the gauge and rotate the engine while observing the graduation marks on the sliding shaft. Note the top piston stroke.

perfect for early hemi 392
This is perfect for finding TDC on an early hemi. I have longer than stock plug tubes and this works great. I attached a magnetic dial indicator on the valve cover and was able to use that to determine a very accurate TDC using this tool. I lost TDC by cranking the engine with the distributor out and the new fluidampr doesnt have marks that line up with stock timing cover. Soo this is the perfect tool along with a dial indicator so you dont need to pull a valve cover. just look inside the cover with the tube out with a flashlight and watch for the intake valve to open, once it shuts the piston should be on the way up. screw in the tool and set up your dial, you may need another set of eyes. once the dial stops moving you have TDC, mark your damper and go in reverse and mark. TDC is in the middle of both marks which likely wont show a difference (you can see a difference with a large degree wheel) the damper is too small. no big you are trying to set initial timing which isnt super picky on a street rod. get it close to 10 degrees at idle and you are good to go.

Pretty simple and exactly as described. Place isn’t in the cylinder turn the motor until you are on the compression stroke. When it stops going up you. Have top dead center. I can see how some people say you can use it on engines that don’t have hemispherical heads but I think that is being risky with both the engine and the tool.

Very Useful
When your timing belt breaks and you need to find your top dead centre (tdc) of a particular piston, you use this tool. As you rotate the crankshaft, with this screwed into the spark plug socket of the cylinder your looking at, it rises and falls. Its highest point is the tdc for that piston.It did its job, and helped me get my car back on the road. Its permanently in my toolbox.

Good product, good quality, must have for the tool box
I used this for the first time last night. Working on my Foxbody mustang. Getting the the end of a motor swap (302) this tool is awesome helps you find top dead center acurately by yourself, would defiantly recommend to others. Wish the price point was just a little lower considering it only gets used once in a blue moon. But is a quality product. Would buy again

An overbuilt, quality tool
These are the sorts of tools I really like - overbuilt, solid, and likely to last a lifetime.This is the right length to fit into DOHC heads. Easily screws in and provides a visual reference for TDC. Essential for conducting leak-down tests or checking to see if your timing marks have moved.Sure, there are shade tree methods for doing the same thing... but it's nice to have the proper tool. Buy it once, use it forever.
