Still an excellent shoe made in the USA
I have worn New Balance running shoes and cross trainers for at least 30 years because my feet are very wide and, frankly, I haven't found any other brands that don't actually hurt after an hour or so, and I end up tearing them apart in a couple of months because my foot actually sticks out over the width of the sole. For a few years, recently, I've been wearing Vivobarefoot shoes because I liked to be able to feel the textures of the surfaces I walked on, but I started noticing that they didn't have enough structure to support my ankles or to provide the proprioceptive feedback that I needed to keep my balance, so I decided to return to wearing "sneakers". I spent some time researching what was available, but ended up deciding on New Balance because they appear to offer the same last shapes, width, and support I had come to expect over years of wearing them before I spent time with "barefoot" shoes.I was not disappointed. Right out of the box the M1540V2s fit my foot like a glove while providing the structural support to keep my feet aligned and help my balance. I could not be more pleased.I notice that this particular model is still, or again, being made in the United States. That is gravy for my pleasure at finding New Balance still makes a great shoe. I recommend this model to anyone who has been looking for extra support in a running, or just a walking, shoe.

best running shoes I've ever worn, and I've worn many
I've been a runner for 33 years. I run on rough trails, smooth trails, road and (for intervals) treadmill. I run distance (up to marathon), the mile, and 400s.I have run barefoot and in everything from Vibram 5Fingers and New Balance Minimus, at the minimal end of the spectrum, to Asics GT-2000 and Hoka Arahi, at the maximal. Before I moved to the New Balance 1540v2, my last regular shoe was the Saucony Guide.I am a mid-foot striker with a neutral stride. At running stores, when they check my gait, they always recommend a neutral shoe. But in neutral shoes I get soreness and injuries. My most frequent injuries are mortons neuroma, peroneal tendonitis and inflammation in the tarsometatarsal joint. I also get those injuries even in "stability" shoes that are mushy under the lateral side of the foot and in the forefoot. That was the problem with the Saucony Guide.A lot of stability shoes are "posted" in the arch and mushy everywhere else. Not the 1540.Some stability shoes (Hoka Arahi, NB 1340) have so much posting in the arch that they almost seem to roll your feet toward supenation. Not the 1540.These are the best running shoes I have ever worn. They provide great, balanced support across the footbed. My feet feel great even after long runs. They are heavier than some other shoes (compare, for example, the NB Zante), but I am happy to trade a little weight for injury prevention and happy feet.Even a "neutral" midfoot striker with good form may lose good form late in a long run, or on uneven ground. The 1540's provide stability that keeps form from breaking down.

Best walking show for exercise......
As a person who is carrying extra weight and ambitiously working to lose the pounds, I found that regular sneakers cause my feet to ache and are causing immense pain that is similar to plantar fasciitis. I bought inserts and they lessen the blows, but it wasn’t enough.I found these on amazon and while they cost way more than what I normally spent on a basic pair of sneakers, these have so much more support. The difference is felt as soon as you put these on or pick them up. I did buy arch supports because they are working too, but these sneakers take a pounding and are super comfortable. The worst part is the break in period. Your foot, I’d like mine, will feel awkward because it actually has support and things will realign. A pulsating / throb I had in my knees went away after a few days. The only thing that changed was the support. Previous to these I was using another brand with memory foam that were super light weight. I figured light shoes, less stress. I was wrong. You need real shoes and support.I have officially logged over 500 walking miles (exercise) on these and wear them everyday for work. Just starting to show some wear on the heels. I’m ordering a new set today. The few extra dollars that a set of quality sneakers cost will never be an issue when you can actually walk pain free. I’d recommend them again and am ordering another set now!

The best shoes I own!
I always buy these shoes because they are the perfect shoe for my wide feet. Sturdy and comfortable, they are a strong construction that gives me the support I need. I wear them daily until they wear out, and then buy another pair. They are the perfect shoe for wide footed walkers like me.
