Too many things wrong with it, and way overpriced
Wittner need to go back to the drawing board with this one. I'll explain why I think that.I have a nice (rechargeable battery operated) Peterson Body Beat digital metronome; but it doesn't look great, and it doesn't have the user experience of a traditional mechanical metronome. Similar deal with the software metronome built into the Kawai Novus (which, incidentally, the UI designer of that needs letting go for layering tiny circular buttons over the top of a list box of meters; it's way too easy to miss a button, and accidentally change to an unwanted meter. That's just a dopey design by a naïve noob).Anyway, so I wanted a nice-looking (and of course functional) metronome to sit on top of the Novus. This one is not bad looking, so it more or less fits that part of the bill. It's not quite luxurious-looking, though (you expect luxury at this price). And it's far from luxurious to use. It feels cheap and flimsy to me. The bell rings for far, far too long, and it sounds dreadful and cheap. I'm not expecting the tempo or timekeeping to be very accurate, but it'll be good enough for my playing. :)The plastic underneath is very thin and weak. I noticed just how weak and bendy it is while I was sticking felt feet on the bottom (for some reason, the plastic feet have been designed to make the metronome slide around on a smooth surface). So that's all pretty bad. Also, you remove/replace the wooden front panel to access/hide the pendulum. But that panel is too tight, and it sticks. It's really fiddly to get off and on, and that experience is a long, long way from luxurious (again, you expect luxury at this price). So I sat down (while watching Friend Request, which is a good movie IMO) and removed and replaced that panel about 150 times to try to break it in, and to get it to fit more smoothly. That was a very frustrating experience (and it added nothing to the movie). I got it a little better, but it was a very annoying process, and even more annoying that I had to do it at all. But most annoying was then looking at my hands/fingers afterward and seeing that they were covered in brown wood stain. What kind of wooden instrument, that's meant to be handled, doesn't even seal its stain? That was the last straw, and I just flipped the bozo bit on this product and on Wittner all up. They need to rethink and redesign this thing.Even the cheap flimsy tin Wittner badge on the front isn't nailed on quite properly, so it has a slight shake and a rattle. This thing is just shoddy and half-finished all around. And then there's the price. Well, what can you say about that. Over two hundred dollars for this. So it's half-finished for double the price. Just shameless. Utterly shameless. I knew what I was getting into, and I *chose* to throw away that amount of money for something that I knew was nowhere near worth it. And it isn't. I guess there's one born every day. :)UPDATE: I had the back of the wooden front panel lying brown-wood-stain side up, and I foolishly accidentally spilled water on it. Let me get that out of the way first: I was foolish. But customers should be able to be that-kind-of-foolish with products, and the damage should be limited to the product (it shouldn't ruin the rest of the house). As I've mentioned, that stain is water soluble--and BOY is it WATER SOLUBLE! On contact with the panel, the water I spilled *instantly* turned into a pool of saturated dark brown water that ended up in several places on the light-colored carpet. In fact I didn't notice the stain at first, I just grabbed a towel and mopped up what I thought was still water. So I ruined a towel as well as my carpet with this. I've never seen anything like this unbelievably shoddy attempt at wood-finishing. Talk about amateur hour. They might as well just ship you a bottle of wood stain so you can pour it all over your house (and hands) and get it over with. Insane. Zero stars.

Works well, too much plastic, finish not as pictured.
I prefer the aesthetic and mechanical functionality to a digital device requiring batteries. This item works very well, though the matte finish version does not look like the image, it is lighter, flat, and doesn’t have the nice deep tones of the pictured item. Product photo is closer to the high gloss version (WIT-814). The exterior is all actual wood (not veneer or composite ), but the interior has a cheap ‘made in china’ feel. Considering the price, I was hoping for more of an all brass clockwork inside, and a lot less plastic. Overall, it’s nice, works very well, sounds good, but components make it seem overpriced for what you are getting.

Very pleased with the quality of this metronome
Very pleased with the quality of this metronome. So much nicer than using an app or one made of plastic.
