Yes, you can wrap the bird spikes around in the middle of the tree trunk to prevent cats from climbing.

Q: Are there predrilled holes for crew mounting?

Yes, there are several pre-drilled holes for mounting. FYI, I used Gorilla double-faced tape to adhere to the brick front of my house, instead of drilling into the bricks...works GREAT & SO EASY. !!

Q: Can this be applied right next to or on a light fixture without getting too hot / melting / etc.?

The spikes are made is stainless steel, so they won’t melt. Depending on how hot the light fixture gets, I suppose there could be an issue with the mounting method (e.g. zip ties).
