Excellent instructions and grows in pretty rugged soil
I picked this bag up as I had been recommended a certain type of lawn seed from a website. It wasn’t this one but it was from the same supplier. I chose this one due to the different varieties of grass in the bag. They meant nothing to me but I felt like I’d have more chance of getting something to grow with a greater variety. Also a more hard wearing grass was preferred as this is the front lawn and likely to get a lot of traffic across it.First impression of the bag, was well it’s a bag of grass seed. However it came with a very detailed set of instructions which I followed as best I could. The specific tip about weighing out as much seed as would fit in a 2x2m square area to gauge coverage was helpful.I didn’t have any fancy tools nor did I have a spreader and so that might explain the patches in the pictures. The soil here was rock hard and riddled with roots from an overgrown hedge I took down. There was chalk in the soil where builders had been using the front lawn as a dumping ground for rubble.I forked the soil over and tried to remove as much chalk and big stones as I could and then finished it with about an inch of topsoil. Nothing special, just reclaimed soil from the local sugar factory washing sugar beat.Went over the soil with a fine spring rake just to break up some of the lumps and then hand sowed the seed. Admittedly this was a bit irregular and would explain the patches. I then raked this in lightly with the same rake so that the seed was mostly below the surface. I didn’t see many birds munching on the seed so that was good.I watered it every evening for 6 days before I saw the first blades appearing.2 weeks later after a lot of heavy rain and good sunshine the image taken from the upstairs window is how the lawn looks. It is about 2 inches tall and has good coverage for the most part. The patches aren’t so much patches but just areas where the seed is a little behind. There is grass there it is just smaller than the areas around it.I will probably leave it another week before I trim it, as per instructions contained in the box. I will post more pictures when the grass has filled out again.

Life’s a grass
Used quite a few different grass seed producers to sort out the dog ravaged lawn none seem to be giving full coverage - then again the dog is still around and we have still got pigeon issues !

My neighbour wants the same stuff!
Sprouted within 3-4 days. Most people say don't sow in summer, well, it was a genius move. The warm weather plus loads of watering meant that within 5 weeks our lawn was ready to lightly play on. A few more weeks it should be well established!

Not a single blade of grass. Complete waste of money.
With time to kill recently I thought I would give the lawn some care and attention having barely done much to it other than cut it for the last few years. Off I went and bought a lawn scarifier then spent an entire afternoon pulling out several bin bags worth of dead grass and thatch which left my lawn looking like it had been subjected to a particularly brutal lockdown haircut. Next step took even longer and was signififantly more back breaking as I spent another afternoon aerating the lawn every few centimetres with a garden fork to really open up the soil. Finally I purchased a several bags of top soil and sprinkled it generously over the lawn paying particular attention to several large 50cm-ish wide patches which had come up completely bare after the scarification. Last step I hoped would be the easiest as I applied this grass seed throughout my freshly prepared lawn before giving it a gentle rake in to ensure that the seeds had bedded in well to the top soil.Happy with the effort I had put in thus far I then spent the next few days ensuring that the grass was kept well watered and enjoyed a nice few days of sun and rain as I waited for my lush green grass to grow. A few days passed and no sign of any growth so I waited a few more days before checking again. No grass. I dilligently kept everything watered and waited a few more days ... then a few more .... then 3 entire weeks later I checked again and found that the lawn looked just as bad as it did before I started this entire process. The large bare patches were still completely bare - NOT A SINGLE BLADE OF NEW GRASS!More than a little annoyed at this point I considered trying again with the little seed I had left before I remembered that I had actually bought a smaller bag of an alternative brand (also from Amazon) - Plantworks Empathy Supreme lawn seed - but had decided against using it as it was a smaller bag and I didnt think it would cover the area I needed. I repeated the last part of the process again, buying more top soil and laying this down with the Plantworks seeds this time instead and again played the waiting game. This time around I didn't need to wait long as I had significant new grass shoots appear in just 4-5 days. I couldn't believe it. The difference between the 2 brands was like night and day. Weather wise there was very little difference the second time around with a good mixture of sun and rain and averagely warm June temperatures. Now a couple of weeks later the grass looks fantastic and the bare patches are barely visibile.Needless to say I won't be buying any A1 lawn seed again any time soon. £30 and a lot of time and effort wasted. Is it possible to get 'faulty' seed? If so its fair to that my lot was a complete and utter bust. Not impressed. Its rare that I leave 1* Amazon reviews but felt it only fair to share my experience in the hope that it saves someone else a lot of work. For anyone considering buying this .... move on, there is nothing to see here ... literally nothing !!

A slow burn, but worth it! Progress pics over 12 weeks attached.
Well, it took THREE MONTHS in 2020 with the dry and hot weather down here in London… but the grass eventually grew! Honestly, 3 months in and after twice-daily watering, its coming through thick now. Beautiful rich colour.Hellish amount of work (not the seeds’ fault) to dig up the entire plot of soil, level the lot, seed and then water for a long time. I honestly didn’t see a single blade of grass for about 4 weeks but gradually its thickening out. Mowing it a couple of weeks ago seems to have really encouraged it to thicken up. Next step is to put weed killer down in a couple of weeks. I don’t want to damage the new lawn after all the hard work.Progress pics attached. Started in March and the latest pics are today in June. Sorry if the orientation is wrong. Amazon’s app seems to rotate my photos inexplicably.Hope this helps others who may be starting to despair after a few weeks of nothing. Stick with it, make sure the soil is always wet. Best thing about it is the colour I think. Its mega lush. I used to be jealous of the neighbours lawn but ours is way more appealing to look at now! So yeah… weather the storm (or drought in my case).
