Avoid like the plague if you are a new mother
If I could, I'd give it minus 5 stars.Awful book. I have no idea why this is even allowed to be sold. Avoid like the plague if you are a new mother. The entire book is superficial and inaccurate, but the worst part is that she is advocating for the most inhumane thing one can thing of - sleep training from 6 months old. Which means she tells you to leave your baby in her crib and leave her to cry, thinking that she was abandoned, and you only come and calm her down every 5-10-15 etc minutes as you want her to learn how to fall asleep. She says that if we baby has thrown up from all the crying, you pick the baby up, clean it up and then throw her into the crib again. It gives me cold sweat from just reading it. Leaving my baby alone to the point when she is sick from all the crying? What is this? A horror show?Your baby was inside you for 9 months and now you are leaving her alone in the room to cry. How stupid and cruel and terrible is that? It will go on for hours and eventually, the baby will stop crying from exhaustion and feeling of abandonment. She will ONLY stop crying because she knows nobody is coming and it's dangerous to continue crying, but her cortisol level will be through the roof even if she stops crying. Yes, it's in no shape or form victory and she learnt how to self-soothe. She learnt nothing apart from that her care taker has abandoned her. The author suggests it's a healthy way to teach baby how to sleep, but sleep is developmental and NOT behavioral. The baby will sleep through when she is ready, the same as with sitting up, crawling, walking. You don't insist a newborn starts walking, it's exactly the same with sleep. The author literally should not be allowed anywhere near children, as sleep training is without a doubt a form of children abuse. Please, be kind to your baby. Don't leave her to cry, even if you are exhausted. Nights are long, but years are so very short. You are damaging their little brain with all this sleep training nonsense, it's so very cruel. Minimise the tears throughout first couple of years and you will see one day how you created this beautiful, calm, confident baby with perfect psychic. It's worth it.

Invaluable.
Bought one of these for my daughter-in-law who found it gave her the information and guidance needed During baby's first year. I have since bought a second copy for a friend's daughter who was also very impressed and uses it as a guide for each stage of development.
