I bought this in advance of a 6-week period during which I was unable to drive my car. Knowing that the car would actually benefit from a new battery, I also knew that its battery would be completely flat when I got back in it. Given the compact size of the CarHev 5000A jump starter, I was sceptical that it would turn over the 1.9 litre TDI engine of my car. (A different device purchased 2 years ago was not up to the task, despite the other manufacturer’s claims.) However, I clipped this one onto the very flat battery as instructed this morning, waited for the green light and was delighted to find the car started up on the very first turn of the key. What an excellent device - compact, easy to use, effective and (in my opinion) very good value for money.

Fully charged this is the best thing since sliced bread. Working 5 minutes from home, with a old battery I had to jump start my car every day.Even after a week it still showed 100%.. 1 thing to look out for is the flash light. Unbeknown to me, if you put it back in the [very good case] it's possible to switch on the torch.Downside changing your phone takes ages and drains the tool in a few hours. Small and lightweight. It charges from a 2Amp mobile phone supply. It has 12v, 9v and 5volt outputs (e.g. for charging a phone, etc..). And a torch/flashing light. It comes in a nice case with all necessary leads and instructions.My car has a ‘phantom load’ problem which occasionally drains the battery. It is normally a good starter. When I needed to jump start the car (voltage was down to 8volts), it was simple to connect and worked perfectly.

This charger barely works at all, its not even capable of starting a small white panel van. It used 60% of its battery of 5 failed starts and then the screen just went blank. There is also a ticking noise that can be heard. Also there is a boost button but its a 1mm hole in the side of the "not so smart" charger cable so I've had to tie on a twisty wire freezer tag to the smart cable to be able to press the boost button. How is that a smart cable. Absolute junk. If you want your vehicle to start, don't use this....The week prior to this, it was extremely difficult to start a small generator unit with this also. Both engines were started instantaneously by a better unit which has performed faultlessly on all vehicles on each attempt for over a year so these small handheld units can work well, just not this one.

Very easy to use. This easily got my motorcycle started when the battery was flat after standing for a while. It is also very good as a back up battery for charging devices (as long as you have the appropriate cables). State of charge is shown on small display so you know when it needs to be recharged.
