This book will make you go “oh boy”, will make you laugh, and will make you cry. Chelsea has an amazing and unique story to tell, which she does humorously and gracefully in this book. If you like her podcast you’ll love this, if you liked this book listen to her podcast “Glamorous Trash”!

Beautiful, brilliant and hilarious
Absolute rawness and vulnerability wrapped up in hilarious sarcasm. You root for Chelsea the whole book, because she reminds you of that rare friend that makes anything seem possible. Bravo to this woman’s first book! Introspective and intelligent.

Inspiring
You shouldn't have told me all of this, BUT I'm glad that you did ANYWAY!!! Thank you for sharing your triumphs, setbacks, and nightmares lived and/or dreamed... sometimes one can't decipher the difference. Your courage to do this is a testament to yourself and your mother, and you should never have to doubt yourself ever again! But we all know you will, as we will too! ❤️ I'm empowered, refreshed, calmed, and hopeful ..again. How is this even possible? I will officially (and legally) become a KardashianZ in 2 weeks! 🤣💋❤️

Possibly the best chapter on CPTSD written by a survivor
Chelsea’s detailed and honest description of suffering from CPTSD is a valuable resource and a welcome gift. The symptoms, the ways she coped until she couldn’t, the discovery of her diagnosis and what it means exactly. What helped and what remains of her struggles. Chelsea explains it all better than most professionals (and I’m a social worker) in an intriguingly readable way. Plus she’s hilarious and brilliant. I am grateful for this book and I’ll preorder anything Chelsea writes.

Loved it
This book has hauntingly beautiful and heartbreakingly hilarious essays about the author’s journey through ‘unfathomable obstacles’. It will wring you out then lift you up. I admire the courage, self-awareness and wisdom that it ultimately took to share these stories.

Raw!? No way!
I was amazed to see how many people who wrote blurbs or reviews for "I Shouldn't Be Telling You This" described it as "raw." (Yes, I'm talking to you Jon Stewart and Ashley Black and the seven people who also used that word in their four or five-star reviews on Amazon). In fact, I thought it was the exact opposite of raw; I thought it was well-done. To be honest, I was put off in the first essay/chapter where most of the narrative was redacted by none other than the author herself. In fact, it seemed like there was more ink used (wasted) on the first thirteen pages of the book than on the next 200. The planet, people! For a while I thought I was reading the Pentagon Papers, or classified documents that were found unattended in president's and former president's bathrooms and garages. But perhaps I'm nit-picking. And, in the long run, I think I'm smart enough to have figured out what was going on behind all that black ink during her tragic childhood. (I'm guessing she lost her entire allowance in that big bit coin scam, but I'm a guy so what do I know?) Anyway, I did like the book. And while there were not as many laughs as you'd expect in a memoir by a comedian, those that were there were delivered with perfect comedic timing. I judge humor by how surprised I am when the punch line is delivered. Chelsea is an expert at lulling the reader into compliancy--thinking you are in the middle of a serious narrative when she finally springs her trap, making you laugh out loud with a few well-chosen words that you never saw coming. So, Chelsea, congratulations on your success, both in your life and in your male-dominated career in a male-dominated world. I will pay more attention to the writers' credits in my late-night comedy binges. Hope to see you there. Jack

From fantastic podcaster to beloved author!
I discovered Chelsea Devantez during the pandemic when I was yearning for an entertaining podcast to distract me from world events. Much to my delight, the podcast was funny, poignant, and insightful. Chelsea has an extraordinary ability to communicate clearly about the complexities women face in the world today. Since her podcast called GLAMOROUS TRASH/CELEBRITY BOOK CLUB explores the power of women telling their stories, I knew it was only a matter of time before she wrote her own memoir. And wow - it is fantastic! Enjoy the laugh-out-loud moments as well as the more profound and challenging experiences Chelsea bravely shares. I cannot recommend it more highly!
