For the love of magic
Great you will understand if magic is your thing. Teachings and more with the words and great art within the pages.

A great place to start
So I thought it was about time I delved in to the comic multiverse. I've admittedly only been a film junkie but have loved the Marvel and DC creations with the new addition of Dr Strange I wanted to follow the thrill of the art. This first origin story has some stunning art work, the origin story is a little scant at first, but that may be my bias of seeing the film which may, in opposition, be lengthy...The growth of the character as an anticipated prologue as to what will come will undoubtedly become clear! It took me a little under an hour cover to cover and I'm burning to get started on the series. I've been recommended to head for the "Epic Collection" next then move to the series proper. In summary, a fantastic introduction, but pick you heroes wisely because I feel it could get complicated...

Wong - his part in my downfall
This volume is a reprint of the "Season One" hardcover (which collected the five-issue mini-series of that name), with issue #1 of the current series included. This is a retelling of the origin of Doctor Strange, but with added Wong. I am old enough to have read the original stories from Strange Tales back in the 1960s, and there is nothing here that detracts from that origin, and I speak as one who considered Doctor Strange to have been my favourite comic, back in the day. It would certainly be in my top 10 of all time, and maybe even top 5.So, this is an excellent retelling of the origin, but adding to and not demeaning the original. The only difference now is that Wong is promoted to being a fellow student (and there is nothing in the original stories to say otherwise), though his metier was more the martial arts side of things. He and Stephen don't hit it off at first, but over the course of their struggle with Baron Mordo, they eventually begin the partnership that had evolved over the years in the comics. The art is a bit scribbly for my usual tastes, but it still manages to work exceedingly well, and captured the spirit of Ditko and Colan in places, and it uses plenty of green, which if you look at the Masterworks volumes, was somehow a very popular colour in Ditko's day.Anyway, this is an excellent modern origin story, expanding upon what was covered in only a few pages back in the day, and expanding to good effect.

Really good!
Really good version of the origin story. I personally prefer the early artwork, but the artwork in the modern books like this one is quite superb.
