Twistix Dental Chews For Pets With Pumpkin Spice Flavor, Small

Dogs were so happy with this purchase they stole the bag out of my hand. Fortunately I could get the bag back before he could tear in to it and eat them all. Normally they are not like that with the dental chews but they really loved these. These were originally purchase to help cut down on tartar buildup on my dogs teeth in conjunction with brushing. They don't seem to care it is helping them keep their teeth clean they just love the taste.

Dogs not that enthusiastic about flavor.

Ingredients: Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Brewers Rice, Water, Cellulose, Natural Pumpkin Flavor, Lecithin, Brewers Yeast, Sesame Oil, Ginger, Cinnamon, Anise, Fennel, Peppermint.The first and only other Twistix I bought were incredibly disappointing. They were the original vanilla mint and they were hard as a rock and some broke into sharp-ish pieces. I did not buy them on Amazon. While my male dachshunds (ages 1 and 9) have beautiful teeth and could handle those tricky treats, only the young one will eat anything "minty" and they were too stale to be given without supervision to ensure enough drooling and chewing took place. And my newly-adopted little girlie (doxie, age 7) has missing, weakened teeth -after dental work- from a previous owner's neglect and had never had chews of any kind before a few weeks ago. I would never trust hardened treats like that with her, although she did snatch up a small piece and seemed to like the taste very much.When I saw these, they looked interesting enough that I decided I'd try them.These are low-fat and free of wheat, corn, soy, sugar, and salt, so they are a guilt-free treat that I am happy to give. These were just what I wanted, and had the correct consistency that I was looking for for her. They are tough, but not enough to be dangerous to teeth instead of gently rubbing them when chewing. They feel like a hard rubber and have a slight bend when pressure is applied. They do soften more under saliva, and stay fresh in their original resealable bag. They are the perfect size for her to practice holding with her paws and working out her jaw, and she has never gagged or choked on this (she chews a bit awkwardly still and gags on some treats). She spends about a half hour or more on one of these, and aside from the drool this treat does not cause a mess. The boys spend 15-25 minutes on one and are much more dainty.One side of the twist is anise, cinnamon, and fennel, while the other is peppermint and ginger. The spicy pumpkin/mint subtly freshens breath while they chew, and is appealing to all three of the dogs (even the veryveryveryveryvery picky one). The smell sounds a bit strange as a combination, and it is, but is not overwhelming or unpleasant.All of us approve of these treats, and I am glad I can easily find them on Amazon so I can re-stock when I run out.
