Rather than 8 colors, you end up with 16 in a variety of deep and pastel colors. Being able to add lighter details on a darker background, and having it really show up is wonderful. Recently, my granddaughter colored a black cat with standard markers and was upset that she couldn’t add a face that would show up. With the Ooly markers, you can successfully add those details. You can also use any of the pastel colors on any of the darker bases. These are somewhat more expensive than traditional markers, but they are well worth it. Makes a great gift for a young artist.

These are ok..a few of the markers didn't show up that well,but most of them did and it looks cool..these would be good for kids but I can't think of a use for them in my art

These markers are really cool. I totally do not understand how they work, but the ink really does go over top of the other colors. The colors are well coordinated, but there are a lot of blue tones and no orange at all...which is literally the only complaint I have about these markers. The ink flows well and looks beautiful on the paper.The packaging is trendy and cute. These markers would make a fun little gift for those kids in your life who are getting a little old for toys but won't give you any ideas what they might like. My 11 year old thinks these are great.

I am an art teacher and grandmother so creating art is a daily part of my life. I didn't have very high expectations for them since I haven't had the best luck with this type of marker. This set is awesome!! The colors are bright and look great! The layer colors look awesome over the any of the under colors. My grandkids and myself highly recommend this fun and engaging set of markers.

These are very fun markers and can be used in new and creative ways. They aren't interchangeable, so the base color on a pen needs to be used with the corresponding pointed tip from the same pen. If you use a pointed tip from another marker, it doesn't have the special effect.I think these would be fun for older kids and the recommended age range is right (6+). My daughter is 4 years old and these would be too complicated for her make full use of independently.

They work as advertised. Really neat how the top color always rises to the top.

These markers seem smaller than other brands but they are smooth, have good color, and are a good value. They are not toys, they are good for an artist.
